  • Agricola Punica Barrua 2012 NZD $64.95 NZD $52.95
The so-called Sassicaia of Sardinia, made in collaboration with local Sardinian growers, is becoming a reference point for wines from this island and even Italy. Made from a blend of 85% Carignan, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot. On the nose it exhibit spice, black fruits, game and hints of leather. The palate is superb, balanced, poised and full bodied with great depth, length and concentration. • Ata Rangi Celebre 2015 NZD $52.95 NZD $46.95
"Célèbre has always had its own distinctive style as a bright, high-energy red with real concentration and a rich, mouth-filling texture. As a young wine, the 2015 is showing abundant aromatics with ripe blueberry, boysenberry and red currant notes meeting more exotic notes of star-anise. Long, fine, savoury tannins across the palate and the bracken-like earthiness from the Cabernet portions builds complexity, while Syrah brings spice and fresh, balanced acidity to the finish. • Chateau Cos D’Estournel 2009 NZD $789.95 Out of Stock
“One of the greatest young wines I have ever tasted, the monumental 2009 Cos d’Estournel has lived up to its pre-bottling potential. A remarkable effort from winemaking guru Jean-Guillaume Prats and owner Michel Reybier, this blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot (33%) and a touch of Cabernet Franc (2%) was cropped at 33 hectoliters per hectare. It boasts an inky/black/purple color along with an extraordinary bouquet of white flowers interwoven with blackberry and blueberry liqueur, incense, charcoal and graphite. The wine hits the palate with extraordinary purity, balance and intensity as well as perfect equilibrium, and a seamless integration of tannin, acidity, wood and alcohol. An iconic wine as well as a remarkable achievement, it is the greatest Cos d’Estournel ever produced. It is approachable enough at present that one could appreciate it with several hours of decanting, but it will not hit its prime for a decade, and should age effortlessly for a half century.” Score 100/100 Robert Parker... more »
  • Chateau Lafon La Tuilerie 2014 NZD $64.95 NZD $49.95
2014 was a vintage vastly different to 2009 and 2010, cooler with less heat yet a good long summer. This resulted in very even ripeness particularly for those producers that did a lot of work in the vineyard. Classical St. Emilion, vibrant acidity, lovely middle palate, freshness and good intensity. Without doubt one of the best balanced wines that we’ve seen in the last few years from Lafon la Tuilerie. Approachable now however this will be a gem in another few years, it has the pedigree and the composure to excel!... more »
  • Chateau Lagrave Paran 2016 NZD $24.95 NZD $22.95
Perhaps one of the great classic vintages of the 21st century, together with 2000, 2005 and 2015. Lovely bouquet of fresh berries, tar and dry earth, gives way to a profound, concentrated and harmonious wine that at the price it just over delivers. Perfumed and full body with perfect balance, suave and enticing, just beautiful. Approachable now but better over the next 5 years. On the equation of price and quality it doesn’t get any better.... more »
  • Chateau Loudenne Rouge 2012 NZD $46.95 NZD $42.95

  • Craggy Range Sophia Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 NZD $157.95
The classic Bordeaux blends at their best. Perhaps more reminiscent of a St. Emilion Grande Cru Classe because of its power, racy acidity and focus. As is the case for the other wines, this needs time perhaps 8-10 years will get the best out of it. Balanced, harmonious and powerful with complex notes of ripe dark plum, violets, an autumnal forest and a touch of smoke. The wine exhibits great focus and intensity with fine tannins layered through a core of dark fruit. The wine carries a real seriousness that underlies its youthful charm.... more »
  • Ermita de San Lorenzo Gran Reserva 2008 NZD $24.95 NZD $19.95
A blend of Garnacha and Cabernet Sauvignon with aromas of roasted meat, saffron and game, full bodied with a beautiful silky texture, excellent middle palate and beautiful finish. An amazing wine, incredible value for a 10 years old Gran Reserva which really is the equivalent of many $40 plus wines. As Spanish wine expert John Radford wrote in Decanter, the tiny enclave of Campo de Borja is "the source of some of the best value wines from Spain, if not the world". It's true. Where else could you find such a grand, mellow, complex, ten year old, oak aged red at this price?... more »
  • Ernie Els Big Easy Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 NZD $36.95 NZD $34.00
When it comes to blends in the new world, no one does it like South Africa. This is a blend of 6 different grapes from very different native origins such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Viognier. However the end result is that they complement and enhance each other, the end result is a full bodied wine with purity, focus and wonderful dimension, very exotic almost wild, it really encapsulates South Africa perfectly. This is superb to go with food and while a little young at the moment, it will develop in even greater depth and structure over the next 7-8 years.... more »

  • Lourens River Valley Morgenster 2000 NZD $79.95 NZD $69.95
Founded in 1711 and revived to its former glory in 1992 by Italian businessman and wine collector Giulio Bertrand, Morgenster stands as one of the very best South African wines to be had. Made from a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, it captures the essence of Stellenbosch, the vineyards are on steep slopes ranging from 50m to 360m above sea level, planted at a density of 3000 vines per hectare and crop at 3.5–6.5 tons/hectare. You would be forgiven for thinking that you are trying a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classe because that’s just how good it is. Earthy overtones with ripe fruit, composed and elegant, medium to full body and after almost 15 years, still at its best. It is not often that we come across a gem like this from the very beginning of the century and at $47.95 per bottle, well we really don’t need to give any more reasons.... more »

Roses, violets, wild blackberry and dark plum, intertwined with notes of aniseed and thyme. Then, on the palate, immediate bright red and black fruits, blackcurrants, spice, raspberry syrup and a layered, almost saline, tannin structure with a refreshingly, fine, dry finish.
