Chateau Musar Jeune 2016
The Jeune 2016 is a blend of old vines Cinsault (45%), Syrah (45%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%) from organically certified vineyards, harvested from late August onwards. The wines fermented in concrete vats, they were not fined or filtered and the sedimentation occurred naturally. The Musar Jeune Red 2016 is fresh, vibrant, fruity and soft with plenty of ripe red and dark fruit and a hint of sweet spice. The tannins are gentle and the finish smooth. It’s perfect for immediate drinking but also has years of ageing potential.
Chateau Musar 2010
Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan were blended in 2012 after having spent a year in untoasted French Nevers barrels and this vintage was bottled in the summer of 2013. It is a deep, rich garnet colour with aromas of raisins, cedar, prunes and cinnamon. The 2010 is a savoury, herby wine with delicate spices and the raisiny, figgy aromas follow through to the palate. This is an elegant vintage with fresh acidity anda long, dry finish.
Domaine Lafite Légende 2016
From the famous Domaine Baron de Rothschild, a superb entry level Bordeaux from a great classic vintage. Made from a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, it shows a deep crimson colour with a nose that is intense, very expressive, dominated by fresh fruit aromas (red currant, raspberry) and blended with discreet notes of oak. Beautiful now but will also cellar for a number of years and definitely excellent value for money.
Te Mata Awatea 2017
Ink-dark crimson, Awatea Cabernets/Merlot ’17 glimmers with bright raspberry, cherry and blackberry sparkling over mocha, cedar and spice. Always a favourite expression of fine Hawke’s Bay cabernet, Awatea from 2017 is refreshing and moreish as well as typically elegant. Aromas of red and dark berry fruit, flashes of boysenberry and espresso on the palate, and a classical, super-fine, tannin structure running through to its long finish make Awatea Cabernets/Merlot ’17 a true star. Closed with a natural cork that will allow Awatea to continue to evolve in bottle and provide great enjoyment up to 10 years from harvest.
Te Mata Coleraine 2017
Made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot styled on the great wines of Bordeaux, beautifully crafted and with the capability of aging 10-15 years. 2017 is one of the smallest vintages on record and allocations are extremely tight therefore demand will well exceed supply both locally and internationally.
Tenuta dell'Ornellaia "Ornellaia" 2015
“The 2015 Ornellaia is a dream wine with magnificent balance. All the elements are in the right place. In most vintages, Ornellaia needs time to fully come together, but the 2015 is just impeccable, even in the early going. The warm vintage notwithstanding, winemaker Axel Heinz crafted and Ornellaia is more about finesse and power. The potent, bruising tannins Ornellaia can show as a young wine are nowhere to be found. Bright raspberry jam, mint, white flowers and pomegranate are some of the many notes that punctuate the finish in a memorable Ornellaia that will go down among the great vintages produced at this reference-point estate.”

"Having followed this wine's evolution in barrel for the past few years, it is an honor to evaluate the final product. This Sassicaia has blossomed since my previous encounters with it as a young, awkward adolescent. The long-awaited 2015 Bolgheri Sassicaia represents a tremendous effort that comes together with seamless precision and focus. This is a confident and proud red wine from Tuscany. Starting with the primary material at hand, you sense the quality of fruit thanks to the wine's beautifully dark appearance and the rich texture it offers to the palate. The acidity is integrated, but more freshness still would have been welcomed in my view (and would also contribute to its longevity). The bouquet is amplified both in terms of volume and length. Its playlist includes dark berry fruit, spice, leather, licorice and roasted coffee bean. Yet, the mouthfeel is extremely graceful and silky. The wine's undisputed pedigree is showcased on the palate. It should also be noted that this edition of Sassicaia feels more ready and open to me. It will age and evolve beautifully, but the 2015 Sassicaia can also be enjoyed in the medium-term. This wine is all about the here and now."

Chateau Lagrave Paran 2017
As is always the case with Pierre Lafon, not a man known for a lot of talking so he just lets his wine do it all for him. Most of you will be familiar with this stunning Bordeaux, one of the first imports of Accent on Wine over 20 years ago. A blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, medium to full bodied with lovely lush and rounded tannins, concentrated and just beautifully balanced. For a Bordeaux Superior it punches well above its weight, it has power, concentration and depth with a lovely middle palate and beautiful finish. You could easily pay double for a wine of this quality. Drink now or over the next 5-6 years.
Craggy Range Sophia Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
The classic Bordeaux blends at their best. Perhaps more reminiscent of a St. Emilion Grande Cru Classe because of its power, racy acidity and focus. As is the case for the other wines, this needs time perhaps 8-10 years will get the best out of it. Balanced, harmonious and powerful with complex notes of ripe dark plum, violets, an autumnal forest and a touch of smoke. The wine exhibits great focus and intensity with fine tannins layered through a core of dark fruit. The wine carries a real seriousness that underlies its youthful charm.
Siesta Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
Another single vineyard biodynamically farmed as is the case with the Malbec but this is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon at its finest. Ripe with hints of dust, blueberry and cassis with an enormous middle palate, ripe tannins and extremely long finish. Approachable now however this will reach its peak in roughly 4-5 years time and continue to improve further.
Agricola Punica Barrua 2012
The so-called Sassicaia of Sardinia, made in collaboration with local Sardinian growers, is becoming a reference point for wines from this island and even Italy. Made from a blend of 85% Carignan, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot. On the nose it exhibit spice, black fruits, game and hints of leather. The palate is superb, balanced, poised and full bodied with great depth, length and concentration. This is a wine that has the potential within years to rival Sassicaia itself but at a fraction of the price.
Chateau Loudenne Rouge 2015
We have just received this magnificent 2015 from the Medoc. Chateau Loudenne is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, it exudes power, concentration and depth yet very elegant, quintessential Bordeaux and given the superb 2015 vintage, this will develop for another 10 years easily. On appearance it’s bright and almost with a tinge of purple colour, hints of cassis, lead pencil and dust. Ideally better served decanted or at least it should be given a good 30-40 mins to open up and evolve. For lovers of classic Bordeaux, this is for you!

One of Waiheke’s top Bordeaux blends without doubt. Ripe tannins with aromas of dust, dry fruit and blueberries. Lovely acidity, perfectly balanced, focused and pure. Will cellar for 8-9 years plus.

“One of the greatest young wines I have ever tasted, the monumental 2009 Cos d’Estournel has lived up to its pre-bottling potential. A remarkable effort from winemaking guru Jean-Guillaume Prats and owner Michel Reybier, this blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot (33%) and a touch of Cabernet Franc (2%) was cropped at 33 hectoliters per hectare. It boasts an inky/black/purple color along with an extraordinary bouquet of white flowers interwoven with blackberry and blueberry liqueur, incense, charcoal and graphite. The wine hits the palate with extraordinary purity, balance and intensity as well as perfect equilibrium, and a seamless integration of tannin, acidity, wood and alcohol. An iconic wine as well as a remarkable achievement, it is the greatest Cos d’Estournel ever produced.
