  • Chateau Cos D’Estournel 2009 NZD $789.95 Out of Stock
“One of the greatest young wines I have ever tasted, the monumental 2009 Cos d’Estournel has lived up to its pre-bottling potential. A remarkable effort from winemaking guru Jean-Guillaume Prats and owner Michel Reybier, this blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot (33%) and a touch of Cabernet Franc (2%) was cropped at 33 hectoliters per hectare. It boasts an inky/black/purple color along with an extraordinary bouquet of white flowers interwoven with blackberry and blueberry liqueur, incense, charcoal and graphite. The wine hits the palate with extraordinary purity, balance and intensity as well as perfect equilibrium, and a seamless integration of tannin, acidity, wood and alcohol. An iconic wine as well as a remarkable achievement, it is the greatest Cos d’Estournel ever produced. It is approachable enough at present that one could appreciate it with several hours of decanting, but it will not hit its prime for a decade, and should age effortlessly for a half century.” Score 100/100 Robert Parker... more »
  • Chateau Lafon La Tuilerie 2014 NZD $64.95 NZD $49.95
2014 was a vintage vastly different to 2009 and 2010, cooler with less heat yet a good long summer. This resulted in very even ripeness particularly for those producers that did a lot of work in the vineyard. Classical St. Emilion, vibrant acidity, lovely middle palate, freshness and good intensity. Without doubt one of the best balanced wines that we’ve seen in the last few years from Lafon la Tuilerie. Approachable now however this will be a gem in another few years, it has the pedigree and the composure to excel!... more »
  • Chateau Lagrave Paran 2016 NZD $24.95 NZD $22.95
Perhaps one of the great classic vintages of the 21st century, together with 2000, 2005 and 2015. Lovely bouquet of fresh berries, tar and dry earth, gives way to a profound, concentrated and harmonious wine that at the price it just over delivers. Perfumed and full body with perfect balance, suave and enticing, just beautiful. Approachable now but better over the next 5 years. On the equation of price and quality it doesn’t get any better.... more »
  • Te Mata Awatea 2016 NZD $44.95 NZD $34.95
Deep magenta with a crimson edge, this is signature Awatea - a modern Hawke’s Bay cabernet with deep, pure fruit and bright, floral aromatics. Roses, violets, wild blackberry and dark plum, intertwined with notes of aniseed and thyme. Then, on the palate, immediate bright red and black fruits, blackcurrants, spice, raspberry syrup and a layered, almost saline, tannin structure with a refreshingly, fine, dry finish. Awatea ’16, as ever, is stylish Te Mata cabernet that totally over-delivers.... more »
  • Te Mata Awatea 2017 NZD $44.95 NZD $34.95
Ink-dark crimson, Awatea Cabernets/Merlot ’17 glimmers with bright raspberry, cherry and blackberry sparkling over mocha, cedar and spice. Always a favourite expression of fine Hawke’s Bay cabernet, Awatea from 2017 is refreshing and moreish as well as typically elegant. Aromas of red and dark berry fruit, flashes of boysenberry and espresso on the palate, and a classical, super-fine, tannin structure running through to its long finish make Awatea Cabernets/Merlot ’17 a true star. Closed with a natural cork that will allow Awatea to continue to evolve in bottle and provide great enjoyment up to 10 years from harvest.... more »

Always floral, always concentrated, always poised - Coleraine ’15 is flame-red with flashes of magenta and brilliant purple. Alive with charm, texture and energy, this is a multi-generational wine of immense cellaring potential.... more »
  • Te Mata Coleraine 2017 NZD $139.95 NZD $114.95
Made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot styled on the great wines of Bordeaux, beautifully crafted and with the capability of aging 10-15 years. 2017 is one of the smallest vintages on record and allocations are extremely tight therefore demand will well exceed supply both locally and internationally.... more »
  • Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia 2015 NZD $269.95 $239.95 Out of Stock
"Having followed this wine's evolution in barrel for the past few years, it is an honor to evaluate the final product. This Sassicaia has blossomed since my previous encounters with it as a young, awkward adolescent. The long-awaited 2015 Bolgheri Sassicaia represents a tremendous effort that comes together with seamless precision and focus. This is a confident and proud red wine from Tuscany. Starting with the primary material at hand, you sense the quality of fruit thanks to the wine's beautifully dark appearance and the rich texture it offers to the palate. The acidity is integrated, but more freshness still would have been welcomed in my view (and would also contribute to its longevity). The bouquet is amplified both in terms of volume and length. Its playlist includes dark berry fruit, spice, leather, licorice and roasted coffee bean. Yet, the mouthfeel is extremely graceful and silky. The wine's undisputed pedigree is showcased on the palate. It should also be noted that this edition of Sassicaia feels more ready and open to me. It will age and evolve beautifully, but the 2015 Sassicaia can also be enjoyed in the medium-term. This wine is all about the here and now." 97 Points, Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "Love the aromas to this young red with blackcurrants, sage, cinnamon and five-spice character. Changes all the time. Full-bodied, dense and powerful with a ripe and rich tannin backbone that gives form and beauty to the ripe and beautiful fruit. Tight and very long. Approachable now but will reward more in five to six years. A classic Sassicaia." 98 Points, James Suckling "Rich and concentrated, this red features black currant, blackberry, violet, mineral and spice flavors. Dense yet lively, structured yet impeccably balanced, with vibrant acidity driving the long, fruit-filled aftertaste. The oak is beautifully integrated. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2023 through 2042." 97 Points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (WS #1 wine of 2018 "Top 100 Wines of 2018") ... more »
  • Tenuta dell'Ornellaia "Ornellaia" 2015 NZD $349.95 $294.95
“The 2015 Ornellaia is a dream wine with magnificent balance. All the elements are in the right place. In most vintages, Ornellaia needs time to fully come together, but the 2015 is just impeccable, even in the early going. The warm vintage notwithstanding, winemaker Axel Heinz crafted and Ornellaia is more about finesse and power. The potent, bruising tannins Ornellaia can show as a young wine are nowhere to be found. Bright raspberry jam, mint, white flowers and pomegranate are some of the many notes that punctuate the finish in a memorable Ornellaia that will go down among the great vintages produced at this reference-point estate.” Score: 98, Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, April 2018 “A big, brooding red, packed with blackberry, plum and earth flavors, all wrapped in spicy oak. Monolithic now, finishing with saline mineral elements, a leafy, tobacco edge and dense, mouthcoating tannins. Terrific potential. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2023 through 2038.” Score: 97, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator Insider, May 2018 ... more »
