Velenosi was born out of the passion of Ercole and Anglea Velenosi, situated in Marche and made from a blend of 70% Montepulciano and 30% Sangiovese. The maceration time is about 35-40 days to achieve excellent results and colour which is ruby red with garnet reflections. After fermentation the wine is placed in partly used and partly new barriques and the result is an intense concentrated wine with an array of blackcurrant and a touch of led pencil coupled with beautiful balance and great acidity. 2016 is a wonderful vintage approachable now but will also cellar for the next 4-5 years.
Established in 1903 by the Castellani family who have been an integral part of Tuscany for over a century have always dedicated their passion and their lifetime to produce beautifully balanced and poised yet inexpensive Chiantis. 2017 vintage is a relatively cool vintage in Tuscany and emphasizes beautiful perfume of pine nuts, prosciutto and roasted meats. This is excellent with pasta, lasagne or any cured meats.

“The 2013 I Sodi di S. Niccolò is 85% Sangioveto (a more antique name for Sangiovese) and 15% Malvasia Nera from a single vineyard. This wine opens to a darkly saturated appearance and shows ruby, garnet and purple highlights. The bouquet is powerful but seamless at the same time with smooth transitions between dark cherry, spice, tobacco and moist clay. In the mouth, this wine shows dense extraction, but it never feels too weighed down by that mass. Instead, the freshness of the fruit and the natural acidity give the wine a bright and buoyant personality. There is Chianti and there is Chianti… but this is super Chianti Classico! Old fashioned with wonderful saline flavours, medium to full-bodied with aromas of prosciutto, cypress and dry meats. When we said there is Chianti and there is Chianti, we mean this is the true classical style being dry, high acidity, beautifully perfumed, lovely balance and almost seductive, once you try it you always go back to it!
This is Chianti Classico, this is definitely Chianti Classico… When we were trying this it took a while to open up but when it did it was on point. This is always the case with Chianti Classico, it’s almost like a spring flower waiting for the summer. This is exactly what you expect from Chianti Classico, roasted meats, pancetta on the grill and freshly sliced prosciutto, lovely perfume with hints of pine nuts and lavender with a pinch of sea salt, medium to full bodied, expressive and concentrated. It only needs a beautiful Tuscan dish to go with it. Drink now or over the next 5 years, enjoy because you’ll love it!
Chianti and Tuscany are basically synonymous, made from Sangiovese and a little Canniolo, it expresses the nature and terroir of Chianti, perfumed, slightly floral, saline, dry and clean yet almost addictive. Medium bodied with lovely texture, concentration and enough power, soft, persistent and an ideal partner for any Tuscany dish, pastas, lasagne etc. Drink now or over the next couple of years.
Rosso di Toscana or simply put, red from Tuscany, as the name indicates can vary a lot but this is one of the best value for money reds from Straccali. It’s quite unbelievable the sheer quality, flawless winemaking and accuracy that they put into this wine even though it is quite a straightforward and simple wine. 2018 is a good vintage in Tuscany, this is ripe with hints of grilled pancetta, prosciutto and a touch of salt. Simply put, Tuscany in a glass! Drink now at about 17-18 degrees, not too warm and over the next few years.
