Domaine Joseph Voillot Pommard Vieilles Vignes 2017
Sourced from 4 different parcels in Pommard with an average vine age of 54 years, the wine is showing beautiful aromas of violets, a touch of lavender and cranberry. It’s starting to show remarkably well with the oak being fully integrated with a tinge of violet, caressing tannins and beautifully balanced. Even though the 2017 vintage will be approachable earlier than say the 2016, it is also very well built, powerful and it will reward those willing to wait 5-6 years plus.
Domaine Joseph Voillot Volnay Vieilles Vignes 2017
Sourced from 9 different parcels in Volnay with an average vine age of around 40 years, this is what excellent Volnay is all about! Lovely aromas of dark cherry, spring flowers and thyme give way to a soft, caressing middle palate with lovely fresh acidity, structure and composure. Approachable in the next 3-5 years, better in 5 years plus.
Domaine Joseph Voillot Bourgogne Vieilles Vignes 2017
Four parcels totalling about 4.5 acres whose vines average around 50 years go into making this excellent Bourgogne Rouge Vieilles Vignes. Situated below Volnay, for an entry level Bourgogne Rouge, this punches well above its weight. Aromas of thyme, lavender and rose petals give way to a middle to full bodied wine with lovely acidity, excellent middle palate and perfectly balanced. It’s a wine that will reward those that love fresh, clean and poised Pinot Noir but it will also develop for 4-5 years plus.
Domaine Dujac Morey Saint-Denis Blanc 2017
Medium-bodied, giving and fleshy, the 2017 Morey-Saint-Denis Blanc offers up aromas of green orchard fruit and freshly baked bread followed by an open knit, succulent palate. It should offer generous drinking in its youth.
Rating (87 –89)
Domaine Dujac Morey Saint-Denis 2017
Dujac's 2017 Morey-Saint-Denis Village is very pretty, wafting from the glass with notes of plums, red berries, rose petal, cinnamon and other warm spices. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, succulent and giving with a juicy core of fruit and a light framing of chalky tannins.
Didier Fornerol Cotes de Nuits Villages Blanc 2016
Didier Fornerol has thrust forward with wines that are simply excellent and value for money, especially when it comes to Burgundy. The 2016 Cotes de Nuits Villages white captures this vintage perfectly, medium to full bodied with lovely acidity, depth and definition. At its price, it is excellent white Burgundy, clean, precise and pure. Drink now or over the next 2-3 years.
Didier Fornerol Cotes de Nuits Villages Rouge 2016
Typical Cotes du Nuits, full bodied and precise with beautiful acidity, textured and complex. On the nose it is perfumed with hints of lavender, rosemary, forest floor and tarragon. The palate is magnificent, layered, textured, balanced and refined with power. A beautiful expression of Pinot Noir from the Cotes du Nuits, the birthplace of Pinot Noir! Good to go now but better in 3 years.
Domaine William Fevre Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru 2016
“The 2016 Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru has opened wonderfully since I tasted it in bottle: citrus lemon, Vervane tea, dill, ginger and yellow plum aromas bursting from the glass, an underlying spiciness developing in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with a spicy opening, lemongrass and touches of ginger, very open and generous with dried honey, curry leaf and a touch of ginger towards the feisty finish. Excellent.” -- 93 pts Vinous (Neal Martin)
Domaine William Fevre Chablis Vaulorent Premier Cru 2016
“The 2016 Chablis Vaulorent 1er Cru has a really lovely bouquet with dried pineapple, musk, chalk dust and yellow flower aromas. The palate is well balanced with a smooth entry, nicely pitched acidity with a gorgeous yellow plum, orange rind and light strawberry finish that lingers in the mouth. Excellent.” -- 93 pts Vinous (Neal Martin)
Domaine William Fevre Petit Chablis 2016
“There is good Chablis typicity to the ripe pear and apple scents and it continues on the rich and vibrant flavors that possess an inner mouth perfume that is also based on apple, all wrapped in a lightly mineral-inflected finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth. This is a quality effort in the context of the genre.” -- 87-89 Burghound
Simon Bize Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru "Aux Vergelesses" 2015
Wine Advocate 91 points - "The 2015 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Vergelesses wafts from the glass with notes of baked plum, cherries, raspberry, currant leaf, rich spice and espresso which mingle in a sun-kissed bouquet. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, rich and ample, with fine-grained tannins and flavors of fruit preserve. This is a bit more marked by the 2015 sunshine than it seemed in barrel (when it seemed the peer or even the superior of the domaine's Serpentières), and could end up evolving like the 1990."
Simon Bize Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru "Les Talmettes" 2015
Chisa Bize has done a magnificent job with this particular vintage and one of the outstanding 1er Cru from this Domaine Talmettes is perhaps one of the best we have tried in the last 20 odd years. Crunchy, fresh and clean with lively vibrancy, beautiful acidity, balance and equilibrium which is really what you expect from great Burgundy. At the moment it is showing little reduction, a little too much frontal fruit but this will balance out. Be patient with it and give it some time. Outstanding 1er Cru! Drink over the next 10 years.
Simon Bize Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru "Les Marconnets" 2015
Burghound 92 points - "A discreet application of wood serves as a relatively neutral backdrop for a pretty array of spice, earth and floral scents that are also trimmed in a touch of green tea nuances. There is a bit more mid-palate concentration as well as more evident minerality to the middle weight flavors that possess a beguiling texture while offering solid length on the mildly rustic finish. This is also a bit firmer and will need most of a decade to mature."
Simon Bize Aloxe Corton "Le Suchot" Rouge 2016
Frankly when it comes to value for money, this has to be one of the best Aloxe Corton that you can find. The wine is expressive and balanced displaying floral notes of thyme, wet leaf and hints of lavender. Medium to full body with beautiful texture with softly extracted tannins, balance and just perfectly focused. Wonderful wine and with a little patience another 7-8 years it will be magnificent!
Simon Bize Savigny-les-Beaune "Aux Grands Liards" 2016
"The 2016 Savigny les Beaune les Grand Liards has a lovely, pure blackberry, boysenberry and wet loam scented bouquet that is very well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with dusky black fruit, chalky tannin, quite linear and focused but you can really feel the freshness and energy on the finish of this impressive village cru. Excellent, especially for a village cru, the sole vineyard to survive and make a single vineyard bottling."
90-92 points, Neal Martin
Simon Bize Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru "Aux Vergelesses" Blanc 2015
A stunning single vineyard cru which typifies this particular single vineyard Vergelesses. The wine first of all is full bodied with concentration, power and a touch of limestone, beautiful balance, racy acidity, lifted aromas of fresh baked bread and brioche with a touch of oak. Good now but superb in 5 years time.
Simon Bize Savigny-les-Beaune Blanc 2016
"The 2016 Savigny Les Beaune Blanc has an attractive apple blossom and grass clipping scented bouquet with fine delineation. The palate offers passion fruit and hints of ginger on the entry, a fresh line of acidity and a slightly honeyed finish that lingers in the mouth. This is just a straightforward, delicious white Savigny."
89-91 points, Neal Martin
Simon Bize Savigny-les-Beaune "Aux Grands Liards" 2015
This is compared to the Bourgeots, the more bulkier, more masculine and more concentrated wine. Terrific aromas of spring flowers, minerals and lavender but yet elegant, soft and velvety. You’ll need to be a little patient with Simon Bize’s wines because they are built for the long run, they have pedigree, they are focused and they age beautifully. Cellar for 10 years plus.
Simon Bize Bourgogne "Les Perrieres" Rouge 2015
This is the red equivalent and also the entry level for Simon Bize but it’s beautifully made, medium to full body with a lovely texture, dry herbs, hints of rosemary and lavender and for an entry level red Burgundy, it punches well above its weight. Again being that it’s a 2015, it helps because it was such a superb vintage. Drinking well now or over the next 5-6 years.
Didier Fornerol Cotes de Nuits Villages Blanc 2015
Didier Fornerol has thrust forward with wines that are simply excellent and value for money, specially when it comes to Burgundy. The 2015 Cotes de Nuits Villages white captures this vintage perfectly, medium to full bodied with lovely acidity, depth and definition. At its price, it is excellent white Burgundy, clean, precise and pure. Drink now or over the next 4-5 years.
Didier Fornerol Cotes de Nuits Villages Rouge 2015
Didier Fornerol operated by ex-owner of Domaine de L’Arlot has reached enormous heights over the past 10-15 years. Even though this is just a Cotes de Nuits Villages, it typifies what Cotes de Nuits can do even at their most basic level. Medium bodied, precise vibrant and fresh, with savoury notes and primary fruit flavours of maraschino cherry and cepes, beautifully balanced and textured with finesse, simply put very classy!
Domaine Jean-Marc Boillot Puligny Montrachet 2015
A classic example of superb Puligny, structured and concentrated with ripe stone fruits and mineral flavours. A little young but already showing its potential, full body, freshness, acidity, everything you expect from a truly wonderful producer of Puligny Montrachet.
Domaine Jean-Marc Boillot “Champ Canet” 1er Cru 2013
Champ Canet, situated on the commune’s north boundary with Meursault, produces eclectic Puligny Montrachet with definition, character and pedigree. Flinty and profound with great intensity, displaying aromas of pure citrus fruit, tea leaf and blossom, will need a few years to show it’s true colours but well worth it for those that want to see what truly world class Chardonnay tastes like. Cellar 5 years plus.
Domaine Jean-Marc Boillot “Les Referts” 1er Cru 2014
Stunnig Puligny from an excellent 1er cru vineyard situated just next to Meursault. The wine is pure, clean and profound in some ways quite similar to Meursault due to its proximity. It displays lovely floral characters with stone fruits and citrus, plenty of acidity and mineral flavours, with a little aging will become slightly nutty with a more expansive and richer palate. Cellar 5 years plus.
Domaine Joseph Voillot Volnay Vieilles Vignes 2016
Volnay is an expressive, feminine, soft and velvety wine that even though can be approached fairly young, in the hands of a top producer can also age for many years. Voillot’s Volnay is expressive, medium to full body, vibrant and fresh. Soft and elegant but still powerful, focused and concentrated. An outstanding Volnay that will cellar for 5 years plus.
Didier Fornerol Cotes de Nuits Villages Rouge 2013
An excellent example of lovely Cotes de Nuits red Burgundy that displays terroir, complexity and structure. 2013 vintage is starting to drink beautifully now, it has savoury aromas of thyme, game and forest floor. Fornerol is able to capture the essence of the Cotes de Nuits even though his wines are always excellent value for money and also capable of aging.
Domaine de L'Arlot Clos des Forest St Georges - Nuits St Georges 1er Cru 2009
Out of Stock
This is one of the best vineyards from Domaine de L’Arlot, you couldn’t get a much better Nuits St Georges than this. This is a wine with poise, concentration, depth, really clean and focused, in essence, outstanding. 2009 will become another classic pretty much across Burgundy. Needless to say, very young at the moment however, perfumed, balanced, aristocratic, great finesse, great texture; to summarize, a must buy for any Burgundy Pinot Noir lover. Cellar for up to 20 years.
Domaine de L’Arlot Nuits Saint Georges “La Gerbotte” 2007
Out of Stock
Nuits Saint Georges has for many years enjoyed a world wide reputation for their red wines however this is white made from 100% Chardonnay from relatively young vines around the 15 year mark which says it all about this particular Domaine which transfer their philosophy about making sensual feminine red wines into their white wines. 2007 is a classical vintage for whites and once you try this it really says it all. Excellent handling of oak, aristocratic, sensual and refined with beautiful texture, pure silk, you see mineral notes coming through and the oak just needs a little more integration. Keep it for 3-5 years and it will become a classic.
Domaine Joseph Voillot Beaune 1er Cru “Aux Coucherias” 2016
A classic Beaune from one of the most classical producers in Burgundy, soft and velvety with lovely acidity and stucture, caressing tannins and slightly floral. Perhaps not at the very high level of his Volnay and Pommard however this is a spectacular Beaune that offers, even in its youth, precision, soft and velvety tannins. Quite approachable now however it will be much better in 5 years plus.
