Alma Negra “Gran Alma Negra” 2010
NZD $83.95 NZD $72.95
Gran Alma Negra is the top label from Ernesto Catena. Picked from the best sites in his vineyards, this exemplifies what great Malbec Argentina can make. Very dark in colour with a beautiful perfume of earth, dark chocolate, wild flowers and a hint of roast meats. On the palate it is very expressive, very full bodied with great structure, massive concentration and great length. The 2010 is starting to drink beautifully now after you decant it for 2-3 hours never the less it will also cellar for the next 5-6 years plus.... more »
Los Pasos Malbec Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
NZD $18.95 NZD $16.95
Another great addition from the Bodega Septima made of 60% Malbec and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. Even though it’s not the top Reserva from Septima, however it is astonishing how great value for money this is. Lovely aromas of dark berries, mint and fresh herbs and the palate is expressive, medium to full bodied, lovely texture and excellent length. Drinking beautifully now however will also cellar for the next 3-4 years.... more »
Padrillos Malbec 2016
NZD $26.95 NZD $24.95
Made by Ernesto Catena, the son of Nicolas Catena who pretty much single handedly put malbec from Mendoza on the world map. This is also from Mendoza, the ideal region to make Malbec, high altitude, natural irrigation from the Andes, hot during the day, hot during summer and cool nights. Full body and concentrated with great depth, lovely aromas of dark chocolate, blackberries yet with very suave and supple tannins and excellent length. Great with great steaks, grilled chops, in fact any grilled meats. Approachable now however drinking over the next 4-5 years.... more »
Septima Noche Pinot Noir 2008
NZD $53.95 NZD $44.95
Septima Noche literally translated means Seventh Night. This is a deviation from what you would come to expect from Mendoza in Argentina where Malbec is the king. A robust, concentrated Pinot Noir that is probably more the style of a Burgundy than the Kiwi type, savoury and ripe with ample and rich middle palate, a beautiful expression of its varietal that will also cellar for the next 4-5 years. Something distinctive that you should make a point of trying.... more »
