Delicious balanced nerve . clean, precise and insanely well composed, It's a long time ago, Meursault was always butter and nuts in taste; many wines today are differently fresh, like this one, a far more mineral acquaintance with a precise, stringent acidity and the obesity behind it. Nice length, many layers. The Clos du Cromin field is located north of the town of Meursault itself - relatively close to the border with Volnay.
The soil contains a large proportion of limestone and white marl, which creates a refreshing and mineral form of Meursault. This combined with Monnier's rather traditional form of vinification gives a fresh and precise Meursault that does not appear quite as bold and barrel-like as it might otherwise be the case here. Clos du Cromin is a brilliantly beautiful Meursault, which excels with grace and precision rather than the more obese and buttery style that Meursault may be characterized by.
Light yellow and clear in color with a flattering and focused nose with citrus, nuts, white flowers and discreet butter tones.
In the mouth a slightly more acidic and mineral style than is typically the case with Meursault, where the style can be extremely obese.
Especially here in the excellent vintage 2019, where this Clos de Cromin appears precise and focused with an acid-rich backbone and an almost crunchy minerality in the very long aftertaste... more »
