  • Penfolds RWT Bin 798 2017 $259.99 Barossa Valley
    152061
RWT Barossa Valley Shiraz presents an admirable alternative to the multi-regional sourcing and American oak maturation that are hallmarks of Grange, expressing instead, single region Barossa Valley shiraz matured only in French oak. The initials RWT stand for ‘Red Winemaking Trial’, the name given to the project internally when developmental work began in 1995. Naturally, now no longer a ‘Trial’, RWT Shiraz was launched in May 2000 with the 1997 vintage. Its style is opulent and fleshy, contrasting with Grange, which is more muscular and assertive. RWT is made from fruit primarily selected for its aromatic qualities and lush texture. The result is a wine that helps to redefine Barossa shiraz at the highest quality level... more »

  • Corofin Wrekin Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019 $59.99 $49.99 Marlborough
    155789
The Wrekin occupies its own small locality tucked into the foothills of Marlborough’s Southern Valleys. Farmed bio-dynamically it is fast becoming a site of significance on the region’s vineyard landscape. The Wrekin’s clay soils, which are laid over greywacke parent rock, contribute hugely to the singularity of the wines made from this site: depth and texture with a salty twist. “Imagine it’s Christmas and you’ve cooked a leg of ham and studded it with cloves; this is the first impression of the wine. Then throw in a sprig of rosemary and a bunch of violets, et voilà, you get the impression of this idiosyncratic scent. With its meaty, almost feral, flavors and structured style, it marks a real contrast with Corofin’s delicate and pretty Settlement Vineyard Pinot Noir. It offers a high level of concentration, which is due to low yields – around 30hl/ha. While it has a sense of silken delicacy on the midpalate, the grippy tannins provide a firm but fine, chalky-textured grip. It’s a very good wine with personality plus, but the personality might be more appreciated by those willing to drink left of center. Drink 2022 to 2028.” – Rebecca Gibb MW Accolades: 93/100 – Rebecca Gibb MW (Vinous) ... more »

  • Corofin Settlement Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019 $59.99 $49.99 Marlborough
    155788
Settlement Vineyard is planted on the slopes of the Omaka Valley in Marlborough. Owned by Dog Point and managed with immense intelligence and insight by viticulturist Nigel Sowman. East Slope lies in a north-north-east orientation and is planted at a density of 4,000 vines per hectare on clay-rich soils. BioGro certified. Their first and the youngest of their grower micro-sites; precious, and as usual radiating its earthy warmth, freshness and red-fruitedness. Quite sleek (vintage) but it gets around. The energy and generosity are to enjoy every time. “There’s no sense of trying too hard in this wine. Everything is relaxed and silken. The fruit hails from Dog Point’s youngest Pinot block in the Omaka Valley: it’s a low-yielding slope. In the winery, the ferment is composed of whole berries and there’s no new oak, creating a highly aromatic, very pretty style. It’s delightfully scented with red berries and dried herbs – a potpourri of rosemary, thyme and wormwood – plus a bitter-orange-like twist on the finish. Light-bodied and refined with delicate tannins. Drink 2021 to 2026.” – Rebecca Gibb MW Accolades: 95/100 – Bob Campbell MW (2017 vintage) 92/100 – Rebecca Gibb MW (Vinous) 91/100 – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate (2017 vintage)... more »

  • Menhir Sale Fiano e Malvasia 2016 Salento IGT $25.99 $19.99 Puglia
    154702
The brothers Gaetano and Vito Marangelli fell in love with Salento, a beautiful region at the Southern end of Apulia in Southern Italy, often referred to as the "heel" of the Italian "boot". They had the dream to combine 3 different realities: a winery, a restaurant and an organic farm and so in 2002 Menhir was born. Menhir is situated in Minervino di Lecce, a hidden little town with a lot of history. It hosts, in fact, intact archaeological sites and it’s famous for its scattered upright rough monoliths called menhirs, hence the name. The Sale Bianco is a blend of two native aromatic varieties, Fiano and Malvasia that is bursting with fresh and fragrant aromas, notes of exotic fruit, mango, melon and peach and hints of white flowers. On the palate it’s fresh and crisp but with a nice creamy texture and a subtle almond note which adds another dimension to the wine. • Clayvin Marlborough Chardonnay Single Vineyard The Fuder Series 2016 $58.99 $49.99 Marlborough
    155727
Marlborough has also established a great reputation for its Chardonnays with continually fine new examples appearing on stage. There is no wine anywhere in the world that tastes like the wine of Marlborough. Balance, purity and intense flavour set around impressive aroma, distinctive fruit and appealing balanced acidity is unrivalled. This Chardonnay has a great pedigree: the grapes are organically grown and sourced from the world renowned and revered Clayvin Vineyard owned by the Gisen Family, one of the oldest New Zealand wine producers, making wine since 1981 and awarded Winery of the Year in 2018. Established in 1991, Clayvin Vineyard is a north facing hillside vineyard, the vineyard planting is high density. This density creates natural competition among the vines, reducing vigour, promoting root structure and intensity of flavour. It also means that the vineyard only produces ‘one bottle of Clayvin Chardonnay per vine’. Definitely worth savouring! Where does the name Fuder come from? Fuders are a 1000 litre German Oak barrel in which the wine is fermented and aged. The use of these particular barrels ensures the wine develops a greater complexity and refinement because oak doesn’t dominate giving greater depth and complexity. This is an intense, rich and complex Chardonnay offering ripe peaches, honey and cashews with brioche nuance. It encompasses both savoury and mineral flavours. On the palate it has a satiny texture which is complemented by a lively acid backbone, and finishing with lingering honey notes... more »

As the wine opens up, hints of vanilla bean, wet pebble, stone fruit and buttered popcorn emanate beautifully. The palate is smothered with round ripe flavours of Fuji apple, dried mango, and wild rice pudding that is both creamy and unctuous. A complex array of fresh cashew, lemon peel, raw macadamia and nectarine notes flesh out this texturally expansive wine to complete this captivating expression of Margaret River chardonnay. Definitely a glorious full bodied wine! Whilst this wine presents beautifully now it has the potential to age up to 15 years. As is always the case with Pierre Lafon, not a man known for a lot of talking so he just lets his wine do it all for him. Most of you will be familiar with this stunning Bordeaux, one of the first imports of Accent on Wine over 20 years ago. A blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, medium to full bodied with lovely lush and rounded tannins, concentrated and just beautifully balanced. For a Bordeaux Superior it punches well above its weight, it has power, concentration and depth with a lovely middle palate and beautiful finish. You could easily pay double for a wine of this quality. Drink now or over the next 5-6 years... more »

  • Von Winning Ungeheuer Riesling 2014 $74.99 $69.99 Pfalz
    154660
The Ungeheuer of Forst is one of Germany’s most famous vineyard sites. Riesling from here was poured at the opening ceremony of the Suez Canal in Egypt in 1869. The soil is based on sandstone with an ancient coral reef and volcanic basalt on top. Fermented and aged in 500l oak barrels for 10 months. Dry apricot, earthy notes, and a hint of smoke on the nose resolve on a palate that is balanced and lengthy, with a strong umami character to balance out the flinty minerality and extremely restrained stonefruit character. This wine explodes on your taste buds and remains there with a never-ending echo... more »

“The 2019 vintage was exceptional and has produced sensational Chardonnay across the board. The single-vineyard Coddington wine is strongly coloured and richly ripe in the yellow peach and apricot spectrum, with a background of toasted oak and caramelised hazelnut. It is the biggest style in our range, and satisfyingly rich as such, but also nicely balanced with its acidity.”... more »

  • Dry River Craighall Riesling 2019 $59.99 $49.99 Martinborough
    155519
“On the palate we see an equally gentle personality too. The friendly entrance builds rapidly with an effortless movement slowing down in the centre to add weight and focus through lemon flowers, lime juice and anise. The fruit intensifies towards the mid and finishes long with a precise and harmonious acidity, which gives the wine its “open” feel. The wine is approachable now, but will reward cellaring for another seven to ten years.”... more »

  • Dry River Pinot Noir 2018 $96.99 $89.99 Martinborough
    155172
"There is a light charred oak note present, easily confused with toasted almonds. Flowery scents like cherry blossom, violets and Christmas lilies are combined with plums, boysenberry and liquorice. Immediately the nose reveals this to be a serious wine: very coherent with rapidly expanding boundaries bringing aromatic volume. The palate, too, has an escalating horizon and an inflating edge; it’s simply delicious, with well-rounded tannins. Initially there is a juicy, plush elegance, with the tannins claiming a more authoritative and luxurious presence, showing off its class and flamboyance. The mid-palate brings the wine back to earth with a grounding acidity that reigns the wine in again without overpowering the fruit weight. It is just enough to bring life again to the floral and lighter fruit aromatics, to highlight the central core and to show the length and smooth finish on the back palate. This is a thought-provoking wine that occupies all spaces and has aroused our excitement tremendously. We expect this wine to gain further interest over the next ten years." ... more »

“The 2019 vintage was exceptional and produced sensational Chardonnay across all vineyards. Hunting Hill is very distinctive in its terroir typicity, with piercing lemon/lime fruit lift and florality on the nose, richness and volume in the mouth followed by lingering acidity and minerality on the finish. This is an absolute classic example of how great the Chardonnay grape can be: A beautifully powerful, yet elegant and complex wine with long term aging ability.”... more »
