  • Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2015 NZD $69.95 NZD $59.95
    152020
Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir has a reputation for elegance and ageability. This vintage continues the evolution under winemaker Todd Stevens. It’s fragrant; expressing plums, exotic spice, cracked pepper, Horopito for kiwis, brambles, mānuka bark and wood smoke. It’s rich but not overblown. The tannins are finely tuned and chiselled creating a wine which is groomed and precise. The Pinot Noir story in New Zealand has been changing as vine age takes hold and we celebrate Pinot of true beauty and restraint. We seek a melange of perfectly integrated flavours. In the Moutere we are happy to see Pinots with a refreshing, juicy acidity. Definitely deserving breast of duck, rack of lamb or grilled mushroom... more »

    11406
"Very seductive pinot noir combining a sensual, silken texture with layers of complex fruit and savoury flavours. The wine has structure but it is deeply buried within a core of sweet fruit. Dark-fleshed plum, violet, cherry, spice and very subtle fresh herbs are among the more obvious flavours in this supremely complex wine. Outstanding! 8/8/2017" – Bob Campbell... more »

We have been importing this producer for a number of years now who is both a negociants and grower producing a wide range of top Cotes du Rhone wines. Chateauneuf-du-Pape is probably one of the best known appellations from this area and also one of the most prestigious. The 2015 vintage is a classic for this appellation and is showing very well now with a brick red purple colour on appearance, and a perfume of black olive, dry herb and black pepper. On the palate it's generous, tightly structured, clean and pure with hints of tapenade, crushed black pepper corns and roasted capsicum. Drink now or cellar for another 3-5 years... more »

  • A. Chauvet Vintage 2008 NZD $89.95 NZD $84.95
    154678
2008 was an outstanding vintage by Champagne standards made from a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, it displays superb depth, concentration but all together refined and elegant with outstanding persistent bubbles. • Marques de Riscal Reserva 2011 NZD $54.95 NZD $49.95
    153430
One of the legends of Rioja and one of the oldest Bodegas founded in 1860. Also one of the great pioneers of blending the local Tempranillo to other French varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Marqués de Riscal epitomizes Rioja as being classical, elegant and timeless. Being a Reserva, by law, has to spend 2 years in oak followed by 1 year in bottle before release making it quite approachable and drinkable on release as one of the key demands of the Spanish market. The 2011 vintage is a superb year compromising a late hot Autumn with a very dry and warm Summer. Beautiful brick red in colour with a perfume of tobacco, cigar box, leather and roasted chestnuts followed by a full bodied palate of oak, vanilla and liquorice. Good purity, finesse and balance with outstanding complexity, depth and structure. Drink now or cellar for 5 years plus... more »

  • Mount Edward Pinot Noir 2015 NZD $54.95 NZD $49.95
    12029
The latest release from Mt. Edward that from humble beginnings has become one of the benchmark producers in Central Otago. The 2014 together with 2013, 2007 and 2009 are perhaps the best vintages since its insertion in 1997, founded by Alan Brady one of the pioneers in the area, the wine has been improving year on year which is not always the case for many other vineyards. This is one for the cellar, lots of ripe cherries, thyme and ripe berry fruits, but it is not all about just fruit, what I like about this wine is the lovely soft and velvety tannins that you come to expect from Pinot noir, ample middle palate with focus and balance. Medium body and expressive, no doubt one of the top not just from Otago but in the country. Cellar for another 5-6 years... more »
  • Ata Rangi Celebre 2015 NZD $52.95 NZD $46.95
    110930
"Célèbre has always had its own distinctive style as a bright, high-energy red with real concentration and a rich, mouth-filling texture. As a young wine, the 2015 is showing abundant aromatics with ripe blueberry, boysenberry and red currant notes meeting more exotic notes of star-anise. Long, fine, savoury tannins across the palate and the bracken-like earthiness from the Cabernet portions builds complexity, while Syrah brings spice and fresh, balanced acidity to the finish. • A. Chauvet N.V. Blanc de Blancs NZD $59.95 NZD $56.95
    110777
Blanc de Blancs means that a Champagne or sparkling wine is made from 100% Chardonnay. This Champagne is also made from 100% Chardonnay sourced from some of the oldest and finest Grand Cru vineyards in the Champagne region. This particular style of Champagne results in a very powerful, full and dry wine. Flavours are more pronounced and robust with the classical "yeasty" tang that comes from the Chardonnay giving this bubbly a wonderful complexity. The bubbles are tiny and highly refined and the flavours will linger and last on your mouth well after each sip, all of which alludes to the quality of this wine. You will find much "branded" Champagne on the market that is of a similar quality to this wine retailing around $100 a bottle... more »

  • Ma Maison Chardonnay 2010 NZD $52.95 NZD $46.95
    153295
This is one of the up and coming stars in Martinborough that has been able to capture the essence of true Chardonnay. For lovers of white Burgundy, in particular Mersault, you will find it very familiar. Made from a small holding of mainly Mendoza clone Chardonnay with an abundant aroma of white peach, melon and nectarine and left on its lees for an extended period of time but not stirred which gives it a bottle fermented Champagne character. Full malolactic is given to the wine with no fining or filtration resulting in a creamy, soft and well balanced texture with lovely acidity, focus and accuracy. Frankly one of the very best Chardonnay’s that we’ve come across in the last few years. Will also cellar for another 3-5 years... more »
  • Septima Noche Pinot Noir 2008 NZD $53.95 NZD $44.95
    153310
Septima Noche literally translated means Seventh Night. This is a deviation from what you would come to expect from Mendoza in Argentina where Malbec is the king. A robust, concentrated Pinot Noir that is probably more the style of a Burgundy than the Kiwi type, savoury and ripe with ample and rich middle palate, a beautiful expression of its varietal that will also cellar for the next 4-5 years. Something distinctive that you should make a point of trying... more »

  • Black Barn Tempranillo 2009 NZD $59.95 NZD $52.95 Out of Stock
    153388
Tempranillo it is very new to New Zealand, though it is showing some promise mainly in Hawkes Bay where weather conditions and soils seem to be very well suited to the grape variety. We have tried a number of them and without doubt this is the very best that we found, it is unmistakeably varietal in flavour and profile, leather, tobacco even dry saffron, everything that you would expect from a Rioja, in fact we tried it against some classical Rioja and it was surprising how well it compared. Black Barn is a leading Hawkes Bay producer and it is refreshing that they are prepared to push the boundaries and experiment with something out of the ordinary, they definitely hit the nail on the head with this one, lovely caressing ripe fruit, concentration, dry spice and vibrancy, starting to drink now but will also cellar for the next 3-4 years... more »

  • Nannetti Brunello di Montalcino 2006 NZD $92.95 NZD $79.95 Out of Stock
    153718
Our first super deal on this was the 2004 vintage. We are lucky to have another super deal on the 2006 which is such as 2004, one of the greatest vintages in the history of Tuscany and Brunello. This is what Brunello really should be, with great structure, enormous concentration and depth, robust and full bodied yet elegant. • Dry River Chardonnay 2017 NZD $74.95 NZD $58.95
    155179
"A melee of roasted Chestnuts, chalk and floral notes, are supplemented with biscotti, custard, peach and nectarine. Fresh lime sorbet and lemon blossom lift the aromatics to keep the nose playful. Thanks to a small proportion of Malo-Lactic conversion, the palate is evenly spread and transparent and gains some additional mouthfeel. With neither component dominant, the aromatic richness is effortlessly suppressed by either oak or the character stemming from extended maturation on lees. The focus is therefore multifaceted, shifting between acidity, texture and fruit in fast pace. White flesh peach, Braeburn apple and green kiwifruit, happily make way for salivating citrus fruit and silken creamy texture. An energetic back palate lifts the wine and allows for a long lingering finish. Our Chardonnay evolves slowly in the cellar, expect this wine to reach good maturity after three to five years."... more »

    154446
“The 2014 Guidalberto is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, although the percentage of Merlot was reduced slightly in this vintage from 40% to 30%. Cabernet Sauvignon fared well during this difficult growing season, thanks to the advanced age of the vines and the hillside positioning of the vineyards. The Merlot was more problematic. This wine is the result of extreme fruit selection, nonetheless. Guidalberto is a medium-bodied red wine with a soft approach and bright berry flavors.” - Monica Larner, Wine Advocate Score: 89/100... more »

Made from a blend of 85% Carignan, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot. On the nose it exhibit spice, black fruits, game and hints of leather. The palate is superb, balanced, poised and full bodied with great depth, length and concentration. This is a wine that has the potential within years to rival Sassicaia itself but at a fraction of the price... more »

  • Kumeu River Hunting Hill Chardonnay 2017 NZD $61.95 NZD $51.95
    112288
The 2017 vintage was cool and windy and the hallmark of the Chardonnays is fragrance. This is particularly present in Hunting Hill with its typical lemon/lime blossom aromas on the nose. Hunting Hill was harvested before any weather episodes of 2017 and the fruit was clean with beautiful flavours. This has come through in the finished wine with a supple texture and lingering finish. As with previous vintages of Hunting Hill we expect this to drink well for 6 – 8 years... more »
  • Ata Rangi McCrone Pinot Noir 2014 NZD $98.95 NZD $89.95
    154846
Ata Rangi's McCrone Vineyard was originally established by our team for friends Don and Carole McCrone who also grow Pinot Noir for leading Oregon producer Ken Wright Cellars. By 2001, when this 6-acre vineyard was planted, we had 20 years of Pinot experience and were able to choose clones and trellising styles that we considered consistently top performing. Unlike our own vineyard soil profiles, the McCrone site just around the corner in Regent St has a smattering of clay within the gravels. The cooling effect of this clay delivers a distinctively different aroma and flavour profile than that of the Ata Rangi Pinot Noir, even with vine age taken into account. The 2014 is the fifth release from this single site. Bottled in August 2015 this wine has been allowed to slowly evolve prior to release two years on. A bolder style than our flagship Pinot Noir, the nose offers a depth of rich spicy notes with a hint of manuka flower. It opens on the palate with a big swell of flavor supported by fine, velvety tannins. The finish is juicy and complex, with an evolution of flavours into a more savoury, umami style... more »
  • Marc Bredif Vouvray 2004 NZD $64.95 Out of Stock
    154867
"A classic vintage in the Loire Valley with a long, slow ripening season and an abundant crop. For sweet Chenins, 2004 is perhaps overshadowed by the super-concentrated and short ‘03’s and the benchmark ‘05’s. Nevertheless, some excellent wines were made which should age well." -- 4 stars, Very Good. Michael Broadbent... more »
  • Dry River Pinot Noir 2017 NZD $99.95 NZD $89.95
    155172
“The nose is very attractive, with a perfume-like finesse and a lighter than usual appearance. A fresh, complex and floral nose shows Christmas lilies, violets and honeysuckle. There are the hallmark, darker Dry River characters of fruit of the forest, plum and berry compote, mixed with a gentle touch of oak. Upon first approach the wine is soft and broad, with ripe, almost sweet fruit characters on the front of the palate. The intricate and round tannins have a mature presence with seamless integrated oak, something we would normally only see after two to three years. Towards the mid palate the wine is gaining power with a dynamic force, presumably a combination of the fruit and tannin density, governed through a radiant acidity. The structured finish is long and abundant in fruit, lingering to ponder the interest in the typicity of the vintage. Though approachable as a young wine, the 2017 will benefit from three to five years additional evolution for optimum drinking pleasure.”... more »
  • Dry River Pinot Gris 2018 NZD $64.95 NZD $54.95
    155177
“Here it shows the heavier aromatics to symbolise its deep foundation through vanilla, toffee, dulce de leche and ripe pears. Fresh characters like melon, fennel and honey suckle bring lightness and are likely to reflect fruit from our younger pinot gris block. This wine spent a long time maturing on lees, partly in oak barrels, to bring aromatic complexity in the form orange cake and nougat. An overwhelming sensation of grace and serenity hit us when tasting this wine for the first time after blending. Comforting and luscious, the gentle nature is like a welcome home wine, if you don’t mind the sweetness of the residual sugar. Its translucent and timid character make it rich and buoyant without the bling factor. The creamy fluffy textural element is that of a groomed gruffness, presumably from the time on lees in barrel, with hints of liquorice root and rock melon. Our Pinot Gris gives drinking pleasure as a young wine, but is rewarding with time in your cellar – preferably five to seven years.”... more »
  • Dry River Lovat Gewurztraminer 2018 NZD $59.95 NZD $49.95
    155178
“Hallmark aromatics of quince, ginger, rose petals and lychee are seamlessly woven into more difficult to decipher aromatics; perfumed stone fruits and papaya with lifted spices. Some of the 2018 Botrytis bunch selection wine was blended into this to provide some more depth - honey suckle and orange peel characters with fresh, dried herbs. The palate is structured, even a bit stern at first, then becoming more ‘elastic’ and viscous with the alcohol spreading through the wine, giving an element of buoyancy. The well natured character is reflective of the vintage: warm, calm, soft with a bright spark and a friendly twinkle. The botrytis portion expresses honey rate and orange marmalade. We see a marked duality in the evolution over the palate where it spreads and broadens, then dries and salivates, but is never lost in direction. If possible, refrain from drinking this wine for the first two to three years, it will open up and soften beautifully.”... more »
  • Dry River Craighall Riesling 2018 NZD $59.95 NZD $49.95
    155180
“The pale golden colour reflects that of freshness and rigor. Tropical peach and kiwifruit characters reflect the warmer vintage in 2018. However, since we picked this very early - 14 March, we were able to maintain the subtle fragrancies we seek out in Riesling; lime sherbet, lemon zest and apple blossom. The additional benefit of an early harvest is that we retain a strong mineral acidity, which manifests on the nose in the form of wet river rocks and citrus blossom. The palate follows a similar pattern to the nose: dense with a touch of sweetness at the entrance which makes it feel broad, with ripe fruit flavours. We often see the more tropical influence from our Craighall block 5 Riesling, which is planted with a better aspect to the sun. Craighall block 6 Riesling is planted perpendicular to block 5, east/west, causing more shading of the fruit. This brings out a palate that is long and drawn out with chalky phenolics which highlight the textural feel of the wine. The acidity creates a fresh tension to firm up the wine and show a linear and horizontal structure. This firm acidity helps to salivate the mouth and drive the wine creating a long finish, which makes it a good food matching wine. Expect this wine to further evolve for optimal drinking pleasure after three to five years.”... more »

The soil is based on sandstone with an ancient coral reef and volcanic basalt on top. Fermented and aged in 500l oak barrels for 10 months. Dry apricot, earthy notes, and a hint of smoke on the nose resolve on a palate that is balanced and lengthy, with a strong umami character to balance out the flinty minerality and extremely restrained stonefruit character. It was put together by the Guigal team, although the vinification’s took place prior to the acquisition. It's an attractive, full-bodied wine that delivers ripe cherries, a hint of stone fruit and very supple tannins.
