Finca Enguera 2010
NZD $17.95 NZD $16.95
We take a look at the region of Valencia, not just the city. This is one of those unique wines that has to be tasted to really believe its superb quality. At $16.95 landed all the way from Spain, it is an amazing feat. Full bodied with hints of smoke, leather and roast paprika, it delivers an outstanding array of berry fruit, with excellent acidity, fine tannins and outstanding structure. A little on the young side at the moment however, it will also improve for 3-4 years. This is something you should stock up on because at $16.95 there are not many wines you find like this.

Cañada Negra 2009
NZD $22.95 NZD $19.95
Another stunning example of value, superb quality and organically grown wine also from Valencia, a blend of Tempranillo and Syrah, mostly Tempranillo. On appearance it is almost black with hints of purple, the palate is weighty and concentrated with excellent depth. Even though drinking very well now, this will also cellar for another 4-5 years. An incredible example of the achievements of relatively upcoming areas in such a short period of time, at $22.95 it is almost impossible to get any better.

Blanc d’Enguera 2010
NZD $24.95 NZD $22.95
Another revival of a historic ingenious grape variety from Valencia in Spain. Over the last 20 or so years, wine growers and wine makers across the country have gone back to native varieties and in some cases almost extinct and are making outstanding, different and unique wines. These varieties when they are made in modern styles and with modern techniques they are truly unique because they have been adapted and have been growing in their particular terroirs for hundreds of years and they produce distinctive wines such as this. This is crisp with slightly honey, citrus flavours, given a little bit of oak but not too much, full bodied, beautiful texture with richness and concentration and very exotic, it ranks alongside Albarino as another superb variety for the future.
