This is our new exclusive agency from Burgundy. Joseph Voillot has been making wine in Burgundy since the early 1920s. Mainly from the appellation of Pommard and Volnay, the 2002 vintage has become a classic in Burgundy and this is what you would expect from Pinot Noir at its best. It’s soft, velvety with a light brown colour emphasizing elegance, softness and seductiveness. It is starting to drink now but will also develop for the next 2-3 years. The Domaine makes wine from non irrigated areas with emphasis on tradition and an artisan approach to winemaking. The wine shows purity, wild mushroom and truffle with a hint of savoury notes. At the price, we believe it is one of the best examples of Pinot Noir in the country which can compete quality wise with the best Pinot Noirs in this country at 3 times the price.

From the lower part of the slopes. Pale yellow. High tones mix with a faint oak note. The oak begins to fade as the aromas take on more depth – just a hint of sulphur on the nose. Across the tongue it is wide, with a lovely freshness. The flavours of ripe fruit slowly penetrate the tongue. This is lovely.

This was previously a small cuvée for the domaine – 0.024 hectares, replanted in 1987. The addition of the 0.5 ha Moillard plot changes that. The vines were neighbouring and much older so the character of the Domaine’s wine is now changing. They have moved them from cane to spur pruning and in this transition phase for the vines they are experiencing low yields. On the nose there’s a taught beadth of red fruit that overlays a faint muskiness. Very silky in the mouth, understated creamy intensity (maybe it’s only understated because it follows the Clos de la Roche!) in the mid-palate. Again, a long, mineral and satisfying finish.

A true example of what Grand Cru Burgundy from a great producer can offer, the farming here was biodynamic as is the case with most of Domaine Dujac properties. We haven’t tried this however judging from previous vintages and in the context of the 2007 vintage we anticipate a magnificent, superbly structured and multi dimension wine with enormous middle palate and clarity. The vibrancy, acidity and concentration will carry through for another 10-15 years plus.

"A more overtly spiced nose adds cinnamon and hoisin to the mix of what the Beaux Monts offers with similar red berry fruit aromas laced with more overt earth notes as well that merge into slightly bigger and richer flavours that also possess a bit more concentration though in the end, this too seems to be on the light side though the sappy finish does deliver impressive persistence. "Here the nose is extremely high-toned with a mix of red raspberry and a hint of cranberry balanced off by subtle earth and spice notes that introduce rich, full and relatively generous middle weight flavours that possess better mid-palate density as well as slightly better persistence on the firm and delicious finish. This is really quite fine for Charmes, indeed unusually so. (Barrel sample)"

"A very high-toned, airy and layered nose of red berry fruit and distinct floral notes, particularly dried red and white rose petal with a touch of lavender, slides gracefully into pure, intense, rich, full and focused middle weight flavours that possess a bit more power and punch with ample minerality though not more length or overall depth. This is certainly an excellent wine but it would also be fair to say that it cannot rival the best vintages for this storied wine. (Barrel sample)"

Nuits Saint Georges has for many years enjoyed a world wide reputation for their red wines however this is white made from 100% Chardonnay from relatively young vines around the 15 year mark which says it all about this particular Domaine which transfer their philosophy about making sensual feminine red wines into their white wines. 2007 is a classical vintage for whites and once you try this it really says it all. Excellent handling of oak, aristocratic, sensual and refined with beautiful texture, pure silk, you see mineral notes coming through and the oak just needs a little more integration. Keep it for 3-5 years and it will become a classic.

We’ve hung onto a few cases of this with the intention of offering it very much at its peak and now at 12 years of age it’s just getting there. Beautiful bouquet of lavender, violets and forrest undergrowth which leads to a full bodied, refined and concentrated palate, lovely racy acidity with focus and precision. This particular 1er Cru is always very delineated and offers wonderful minerality and purity. A first class Burgundy for those that have yet to try some. Drink now or keep for a further 5-6 years.

A lot of you will know Dujac as one of the great aristocratic producers in Burgundy. We have very limited amounts left of this 2005 Morey Saint Denis, one of the greatest vintages in recent memory. The wine is still young and almost primary however it is what you would come to expect from a top Burgundy, a top producer and from a top vintage. The bouquet exhibits lavender, spring flowers, violets, a middle palate of ripe, savoury fruit beautifully integrated, very clean, very focused and with an almost athlete like delineation. Without doubt this is one for the future in 8-10 years time it will be absolutely magnificent.

This is perhaps one of the best value for money wines from Dujac. High tonned and muscular yet in the style of Dujac, soft, velvety with caressing tannins and acidity. It will need at least a decade to show its true colours and as is always the case, the 1er Cru Morey Saint-Denis will develop further for 5-7 years. At the moment it is closed and subdued but the ingredients are all there to develop into a majestic wine.

Some of you will know this producer as being one of the top 10 in Burgundy and frankly one of the best value for money to be found in all of Burgundy. This is a 1er Cru "Les Fournaux" one of the best sites in Savigny-les-Beaune where Simon Bize has had vineyard holdings for many years. Les Fournaux 1er Cru is quite different to the Aux Vergelesses, it is a lot more feminine, fragrant and fruity but still displaying terrific terroir, minerality and impeccable purity and focus. Cellar for 8-10 years.

This is another of our exclusive imports and after many years of trying this producers wines, they never disappoint, this the white version made entirely from Chardonnay that is drinking at its peak right now. At 8 years of age is showing perfect balance and its true characteristics, excellent texture and freshness with mouth coating fresh cream and hazelnut, still very vibrant and fresh almost oily with focus and depth. For anyone who has not tried and aged white Burgundy, this is your chance to discover how well this wines age and how generous and sophisticated they can be.

Interesting and exciting Premier Cru. At 11 years of age it is still fresh, with a bouquet of spring garden flowers but tighter, more focused and less fruity than the Vergelesses. However more vibrant, more delineated with absolutely beautiful racy acidity. Upon opening, it takes about half an hour to 45 minutes to come out and really show its true colours, incredible middle palate, pin point accuracy, definition and absolute clarity. Fantastic!

Absolutely beautiful, just gorgeous, an 11 year old straight Nuits-Saint-Georges that if anything, is still a little young but you should really expect nothing less from this top producer. These guys really take Pinot Noir to another dimension, they are the masters at it. Sublime textural wine with great elegance, silky smooth, lovely savoury notes, amazing middle palate, concentration, depth, everything is in there but it’s perfectly balanced. Pinot Noir lovers need to go outside the square and try some of this. You wont regret it!
