The finest wine I have ever tasted from Marquis de Terme, this seamless beauty exhibits a dense ruby/purple colour along with a big, sweet bouquet of liquorice, seaweed, black currants, and spring flowers. Medium to full-bodied with silky tannins, a rich, concentrated mouthfeel, and a long, layered finish, it will benefit from 3-4 years of cellaring, and should evolve for 20-25 years. (Tasted two times.)

The 2003 vintage, the hottest on record, it is starting to show lovely soft tannins with aromas of mocca and tobacco a superb effort revealing attractive, earthy, black currant fruit intermixed with notions of herbs and new oak. A steely, slightly austere, medium-bodied, concentrated, firmly structured Margaux. It will require 3-4 years of bottle age. Anticipated maturity 2009-2018.

A classic example of a superb second wine from a very good vintage that it is showing superbly now. Classic Margaux where finesse, elegance and symmetry is everything, nuances of black truffle dry earth and a touch if exotic spices are well evident. This is a great substitute for the premier wine on lesser vintages at well under half of the price.

The 2005 is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot and it is a gorgeously pure, intense, deep purple/ruby-tinged effort offering exquisite, surprisingly nuanced and complex aromatics for such a young Chateau Margaux. The mouthfeel is one of opulence, silk, purity, full-bodied concentration, terrific intensity, unbelievable freshness and vibrancy and sweet tannin. The tannin levels are the highest ever measured at this estate but the alcohol is only around 13%, not particularly high by this vintages standards. It is a candidate for 50+ years of evolution. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2060+.

A full-bodied, powerful Giscours, the 2005 displays a deep ruby/purple colour as well as sweet aromas of red and black fruits intermixed with soil, dried herbs and a hint of pain grille. Good acidity, a plump, corpulent attack and mouthfeel, medium to full body, superb depth of fruit, plenty of glycerin (it must approach 14% alcohol) and a lusty finish suggest this beauty will be approachable young. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2022.

Chateau Kirwan 2005

Here we go again! This extraordinary wine is the greatest Kirwan made since some of the estate's historic offerings of the mid 1800s. An inky/black/purple colour accompanies a gorgeous perfume of incense, creme de cassis, licorice and subtle wood. It boasts thrilling levels of richness, full body, layers of concentration, high glycerin as well as tannin and a fabulous 60 second finish. This compelling effort possesses 50 or more years of aging potential. The 2005 Kirwan will be at its finest between 2014-2050+.
