		<title>Accent on Wine</title>
		<link>http://www.accentonwine.co.nz</link>
<description> A Kiwi Classic. We are proud to bring you one of the most awaited releases of one of a grand classic New Zealand red wine. Tony Malloy has been making St. Nesbit since the early 1980&acirc;€™s. Since its inception it has always been right at the top tier of quality in New Zealand. You will not see it around much because frankly there is not much of it! Approximately 300-400 cases for the whole country plus another couple of hundred for export. And that is pretty much it! On the 2007 vintage we have tried it various times against his 2006, 2008, 2009 (none of them released yet) and also against his older vintages of 1989 and 1990. We can say with every confidence that this is his best EVER hence it&acirc;€™s reflected in the slightly higher price. P.S. Only 100 cases available so first in, first served! Salud! </description>

This wine nearly rivals the outstanding 2000. It is a seriously-extracted, dark ruby/purple-colored offering with ripe cassis fruit, notes of leather and earth, and a hint of truffles. It is medium-bodied, pure, and savory, with copious tannin. It will age well for 10-15 years. Drink 2002-2017" Robert Parker (April 2002)

This is really a very special offer as this used to be around the $20 mark and now for this month only at $16.95. An excellent deal on an outstanding Pinot Gris!

This is from Bannockburn from quite an elevated vineyard which is fairly cool in comparison to Bannockburn as a whole, obviously dry however situated in free draining soils with very little irrigation, close planted and fairly old vines. The result is a medium to full bodied Pinot Noir that reflects its terroir completely. At the moment its showing violets, spring flowers and lavender, very well balanced and elegant. This will also cellar for the next 4-5 years.

This is his Puligny-Montrachet 2009 that has produced a magnificent white Burgundy very much in tune with all the superb whites from this particular vintage. Typical Puligny-Montrachet, power, refinement, concentration and beautiful minerality, clean, very focused and still obviously remarkably young and will need another 3-4 years to show its true colours. At its price it is all what you would expect from Puligny.

The Domaine Dujac Morey St Denis 2009 is a wine that can be best described as a powerful yet with great elegance, lovely acidity and silky smooth texture. The wine expresses hints of truffle, violets, game and roasted almonds. The wine as is always the case with Dujac was traditionally made with a philosophy of minimum intervention and maximum expression of its terroir, it will need a good 8 years before it shows its true colours but it will be a well worth wait.

This is a relatively small vineyard of approximately 6-7 acres that has been close planted with the latest selected Pinot Noir clones that given time and with more vine age and adaptability to its terroir, there is no doubt that it will achieve wonderful results. This is the very first vintage and we have already tried this against other Pinot Noirs on the market at about $40-$50 dollars and frankly it is just up there. It has very good texture, balance and structure yet it is displaying typical flavours and aromas of Central Otago such as thyme, red currant, violet etc. One thing is for sure that in its price bracket, it does offer excellent value for money which is not always the case with wines from this region.

Chateau Lagrave Paran 2009 that a lot of you will be very familiar with, we have tried this alongside many Bordeaux blend wines from various areas and is just up there with a lot of them at double the price. Ideally this is something that should be kept for a little while, around 3-5 years and at $24.95, it is almost impossible to get any better. Medium to full bodied with hints of smoke, leather and dust yet with very clear and precise fruit, ripe, beautifully balanced with lovely structure and concentration. A wine that you would put alongside many others at $50 or $60 and is just as good, if not better. For those of you who know it, you will know exactly what we are talking about, and for those who havent tried it, its worth getting some so you will find out!

Only a few years ago you would expect to pay in the $30s for a Pinot Noir like this however due to various factors and in particular, overproduction and overpricing, they finally came down to earth and at $19.95 we are starting to see some value here because this is wonderful Pinot Noir. Soft, perfumed, wonderful texture, light to medium body as most of them are however very characteristic of Pinot Noir and at the price, well worth it. Over the last 20 or so years, wine growers and wine makers across the country have gone back to native varieties and in some cases almost extinct and are making outstanding, different and unique wines. These varieties when they are made in modern styles and with modern techniques they are truly unique because they have been adapted and have been growing in their particular terroirs for hundreds of years and they produce distinctive wines such as this. This is crisp with slightly honey, citrus flavours, given a little bit of oak but not too much, full bodied, beautiful texture with richness and concentration and very exotic, it ranks alongside Albarino as another superb variety for the future.

In the mouth theres a pleasing width of creamy red fruit and nice minerality. Good underlying acidity and hidden tannin. Lovely. As always with Morey St Denis it requires a little bit of time and patience, in fact after recently trying the 2000 vintage, the wine was still beautiful but yet fairly young. 2008 will be an even longer lived Morey St Denis and we suggest a good 8-10 years aging.

Excellent handling of oak, aristocratic, sensual and refined with beautiful texture, pure silk, you see mineral notes coming through and the oak just needs a little more integration. Keep it for 3-5 years and it will become a classic.

This is a wine with poise, concentration, depth, really clean and focused, in essence, outstanding. 2009 will become another classic pretty much across Burgundy. Needless to say, very young at the moment however, perfumed, balanced, aristocratic, great finesse, great texture; to summarize, a must buy for any Burgundy Pinot Noir lover. Cellar for up to 20 years.

This is one of the outstanding 1er Cru vineyards that even though made from young vines, it's still absolutely magnificent. This is all about great finesse, balance and silkiness. A bouquet of fresh berries, truffle and dark berry compote leads to a weighty palate that expresses excellent vibrancy, clean acidity and total harmony. Will cellar for 10+ years.

This is the baby of the family but yet the truth is, that it is still outstanding. Medium colour with a sweet faintly smoky bouquet, fresh subtle vanilla probably describes the aromas of this wine. The palate is about clean crisp acidity, with red berries, refined and great finesse. Simply outstanding and will cellar for 4-5 years.

Straight Chablis will drink beautifully over the next 4-5 years, a little young at the moment however it is loaded with fresh fruits, citrus and clean crisp acidity, very flinty and refreshing but it still has an under layer of opulence and intensity that eventually will come to the forefront within the next 4-5 years. His 2009 is composed, focused and tense with lovely minerality, softly textured and abundant in acidity. Something that will drink very well within the next 4-5 years due to its freshness and also even if its capable of aging, Chablis when young can be extremely refreshing and flinty and this is how it is! Flinty, perfumed, mineral and profound. Excellent when young but it will also develop for 4-5 years.

Cote de Lechet (1er Cru by nature) tends to be lighter and more subdued however more perfumed and suave than other 1er Cru. The 2009 is obviously still a baby but it already offers an array of minerals, freshness and mouth watering acidity. It will develop for at least 6-7 years and in the process it will broaden but yet it will always remain classic Chablis of great focus and purity. Cellar for 6-7 years.

His Grand Cru Vaudesir is taken from a .25 hectare vineyard planted in 1978. This is a masterpiece especially in a great vintage such as 2009. Vinification is very traditional and artisan making it one of the most terroir driven wines in the world. Yields are very restricted, harvest is done by hand and vinification and elevage is strictly traditional. Full bodied, tense with immense concentration and power, mineral, focused with nerve and pedigree. Will cellar for 10 years plus.

After exhausting the 2004, 2005 and the 2006 we have just landed the 2008 vintage that even though it is not as hyped as the 2005 but still a very good one. Made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the wine is intensely perfumed, expressive and dense, medium bodied with ripe soft tannins, perfect balance, racy acidity, focused and clean. A little on the young side now but very approachable and will also cellar for up to 5 years.

Normally wines made from younger vines go into the second label which is La Parde, the proportions of grape varieties will change depending on the vintage however it is a wine that expresses wonderful charm yet being very elegant with great finesse but yet remaining excellent, silky and well balanced Bordeaux with a significant ability to age for about 10-15 years. A classic Bordeaux without having to pay the earth for it. Drink now or over the next 4-5 years.

Long gone are the days of overly oaked, sweet and jammy Shirazs. Nowadays they have been replaced with an array of different varieties from all over Europe. Pinot Gris or Pinot Grigio is one of them. Done in a dry style, with flinty fresh characters, slightly oily, no oak, very well balanced and refreshing. Very much along the lines of a northern Italian Pinot Grigio. Beautiful for summer with anti-pastos, shellfish, fish etc.

This is an example of how the modern styles have evolved over the last 10 or so years, clean with a soft creamy texture and even though it does have oak, it is well balanced and integrated into the wine. A very good Chardonnay to have with chicken dishes, fish but even though it is full bodied, also still remains very clean, flinty and refreshing and the price is an excellent example of an outstanding Chardonnay.

Excellent concentration, soft and velvety tannins with perfect balance and structure, on the nose it offers an array of cherry, spring flowers and violets, you may confuse it with a young Gevrey-Chambertin but it is still very New Zealand with great up front fruit and typical varietal characteristics. From Mendoza, a region situated at a very high altitude above sea level therefore producing very low yields and very natural wines. In the true style of Malbec, it has soft supple tannins with great concentration, minerality and high expression. Some of these Pinot Noir grapes are used to make a red wine which is added to the blend to give this wine its delightful pink hue.The colour, brilliant pink, is shimmering and intense. The bubbles are fine and the mousse persistent. The nose, satisfyingly intense, is both fresh and young. It gives off aromas of red fruit (freshly crushed wild raspberry, cherry and blackcurrant). On the palate, this is a velvety wine of fine balance, and body - a subtle wine with flavours of fresh fruit.

This is a decidedly smaller scaled, lithe Guidalberto that impresses for its overall balance and finesse. The structure of the 2006 and the exuberance of the 2007 are missing, but the 2008 offers superb drinkability and pleasure today and over the next few years. Dried flowers, licorice and new leather add the final nuances of complexity on the finish. The 2008 Guidalberto is Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Most of the fruit comes from vineyards that are separate from those used for Sassicaia, although Guidalberto always includes some barrels that dont make it into the top wine. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2015."</i><b> -- Robert Parker 90/100</b>

Medium in body, it presents nuanced layers of sweet dark fruit, licorice, menthol and toasted oak that gradually open onto a finely-knit frame of notable length. Today it appears to be quite reticent and still holding back much of its potential. Both bottles I sampled showed less vibrancy and freshness in both color and flavors than the other top 2004s I tasted alongside it, suggesting that the wine is still suffering from bottle shock. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2022."</i><b> -- Robert Parker 93/100</b>

Medium to full bodied with lovely, racy acidity, good concentration and depth can best describe this wine. Young at the moment but with the capability of aging for another 4-5 years but it already displays very good integration, excellent balance with an elegant, silky texture. If you are looking for a top notch Pinot Noir but without the exorbitant prices, this fits the bill.

This is made from a single vineyard in Hawkes Bay which has been barrel selected, 12 months matured in French oak with lees stirring. Having tried it against other top Hawkes Bay Chardonnay at $40+ frankly is just as good. Its classy, generous, very well integrated and elegant. We like it because of its racy acidity and its intense stone fruit and slightly nutty flavours. Drink now or cellar for another 2-3 years.

Made from mainly Garnacha and Caranyena both traditional varieties of Priorat, this offers a full bodied, mineral and concentrated structure with great minerality and freshness. The tannins are substantial but they are ripe and on the whole, the wine offers great balance, profound and very full bodied. This is something that should ideally be drunk at around 15-16 degrees as this helps it to bring out the mineral notes and the freshness. Excellent with game, aged cheeses and generally speaking, robust food. It can also be cellared for a further 7-8 years.

It is ranked as the first excellent vintage of the 21st century with a quality only matched by the excellent 1964. This is a wine that combines tradition and modernity, a perfect example of a Bodega established in the 19th century but looking ahead to the 21st. Made from Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo, it is dark cherry coloured with brick red hues with a complex aroma of balsamic, toasted oak and Asian spices. Full bodied, with a soft rounded mid palate that leads to a focused, clean yet persistent finish. One of the best value for money wines in the world that if anything, is just a little young and it will continue evolving for the next 15-20 years.

A pioneering winery in Rioja that goes back to the time when phylloxera devastated most of the French vineyards. Made from Tempranillo, Graciano and Mathuelo, exclusively from vines over 15 years of age. Strict harvesting by hand and aged for over 2 years which it must do by law, the wine is medium to full bodied with smoky and leather characteristics with hints of balsamic, soft, round tannins which make it ideal for having with chorizos, jamon serrano and game. Starting to drink very well now but can be cellared with confidence for the next 10 years plus.

It took me back right to my days of purchasing around the Burgundy cellars in Burgundy. This is really what great red Burgundy is all about, sumptuous, generous, elegant and refined with perfect balance. Vintage wise, 1999 features among the best and even though it is 11 years of age, if anything, it is still a little young. However its delicious. If you havent tried an aged Burgundy like this before, get a couple of bottles because they are well worth it (especially at the price).

Of course we had to try a bottle. At the age of 11 years it is still relatively young however a very clear example of true classical Nuits Saint Georges. Soft, velvety and beautifully silky, lovely acidity still keeps it vibrant and fresh but most notably textural. One of those sort of wines that keeps inviting you to come back to it, seductive, almost obsessive. Lovely purity and pinpoint accuracy. Drink now or cellar for a further 10 years.

This is just outstanding, for lovers of the Pinot Noir grape it doesnt really get much better. A solid, muscular wine with incredible middle palate, poised and refine with a linear of an athlete and the refinement of the purest silk. Excellent handling of oak, aristocratic, sensual and refined with beautiful texture, pure silk, you see mineral notes coming through and the oak just needs a little more integration. Keep it for 3-5 years and it will become a classic.

Mineral with an almost truffle/gamey interface, multi faceted and complex with pronounced purity and precision Just superb! Cellar for 10-15 years.

However once you get to grips with it, its almost like being with a woman that you probably shouldnt be with in the sense of being extremely attractive, seductive and beautifully sensual. The colour even in its youth is light, almost evolved and you keep searching for the perfume and the fruit. What we like most about this is the lovely racy acidity that gives it outstanding freshness, vibrancy and youthful appeal even when its aged. A total experience of a great Burgundy in its most refined way. Very interesting in its youth but will also cellar for 10-15 years plus.

Will cellar for 6-8 years.

The palate is rich, plump and supple with juicy cherry-stone flavours, clean acidity and a soft, dry, succulent finish. On the nose it displays generous aromas of dark berries and plums with hints of wild herbs and spice. Ideally suited to soft cheeses and most red meat dishes but especially soft 'sweet' meats such as lamb, venison, duck and most game. Ready to drink now.

On the palate, it is well balanced and shows great finesse and complexity. Pinot Noir gives the wine richness and a long finish while Chardonnay, from the finest soils of the Cte des Blancs, adds delicacy, liveliness and freshness. Pinot Meunier, mainly from the Marne Valley, gives the wine an appealing fruitiness and roundness.

This is made from Grant Taylor, one of the pioneers in Central Otago with over 30 years experience, with fruit drawn from Black Ridge, one of the earliest vineyards planted in this region. The 2010 is still showing primary flavours of citrus and herbs and with a lot of freshness. Given another 4-5 years it will develop excellent petrol characters with an infused kerosene perfume, excellent middle palate and beautiful balance. For those with a fetish for Riesling, this is for you!

Very different to the Gibbston Valley, fantastic perfume, freshness, violets, spring flowers but sexier than the Gibbston Valley. On a commercial sense it would be very difficult or impossible to make wine in this area so you will always have to focus on the quality side, cropping just a little above one and a half tonnes per acre, it will not make you a millionaire but you dont go into wine production to become one anyway! Again a little young at the moment but with potential to age another 3-5 years.

Definately also very challenging but out of the many Central Otago Pinot Noirs now days and in most cases very commercial examples, this stands out, frankly not only in Central Otago but in the whole country. It is one of the very few where we found ripeness, texture, middle palate, acidity and alcohol levels are all perfectly balanced with is HIGHLY unusual for Central Otago Pinot Noirs. Beautiful perfume, spring flowers, thyme and lavender gives way to a structured and concentrated wine with nerve and delineation. A little young now but this definately has potential for ageing for 4-5 years plus and given the quality it is one of the very few that we have found that offers value for money which is not always the case with New Zealand Pinot Noir.

No, this is different, balance, concentration excellent middle palate and well defined with vibrancy and freshness, you could in many ways compare it to an excellent white Bordeaux, it has body, it has structure and minerality and at the price it represents very good value. Excellent fruit from old vines, natural ferment, barrel fermentation, extensive lees contact and not too much intervention from the winemaker trying to re-invent the wheel and you are almost there.

As we said, ironic but true. A traditional style of Ros made from Pinot Noir with very light skin contact hence it is beautifully salmon pink in colour. On the palate it is what true Ros should be, light, dry, fresh, crisp and flinty with lovely fresh strawberry like fruit and refreshing acidity. Ideal for summer picnics, fish, cheese and at the price you should get yourself a couple of cases for summer. You cannot go wrong!

A 40 year old vine Garnacha (Grenache) with power, elegance, lovely balance and freshness it will cost you $13.95 imported all the way from Spain. As a matter of curiosity we lined it up with some local reds ranging from $20 to $85, it would be a little embarrassing to mention the $70 or $85ones, so we wont, lets just say that at $13.95 you wont find any better. It is a little young at present but it is showing lovely aromas of leather, black berries really juicy and succulent, good depth, good balance and it will also keep for a few years, you should try it next to other $40 wines and see what you think.

We have tried a number of them and without doubt this is the very best that we found, it is unmistakeably varietal in flavour and profile, leather, tobacco even dry saffron, everything that you would expect from a Rioja, in fact we tried it against some classical Rioja and it was surprising how well it compared. Black Barn is a leading Hawkes Bay producer and it is refreshing that they are prepared to push the boundaries and experiment with something out of the ordinary, they definitely hit the nail on the head with this one, lovely caressing ripe fruit, concentration, dry spice and vibrancy, starting to drink now but will also cellar for the next 3-4 years.

Westend are situated in Griffith, NSW, they produce excellent value wines from many varieties, Tempranillo is their latest and probably their best. At the moment is showing terrific ripe fruit with intensity and depth, spice, leather, tobacco, dry herbs but the best thing about it is the balance and profile of flavour, lovely concentration and texture, for those new to the variety, you should start here you wont be disappointed.

Also mostly Tempranillo that when young is very fresh and lively but also capable of aging for a further 3-4 years. Bright cherry colour with some violet nuances. In the nose, red berries aromas remain over the oaky and balsamic notes from its ageing in wood. Made from 100% Tempranillo and only in excellent vintages, this wine displays an array of leather, saffron and dry herbs but yet remaining extremely fresh, clear and focused. We have compared this to some super second growths and even Grand Cru Burgundy and at the price, it delivers unbeatable value. One of the keys to great Riojas such as this are the great vinerous flavours, enormous middle palate and great texture. If you havent tried any great Rioja before, you should definately give this a go.

Only 38% of the production (10,000 cases) made it into the grand vin, a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest primarily Merlot and a small amount of Cabernet Franc. From barrel, I thought it was a modern day version of the 1996 or 1986, and certainly the 1996 comparison still holds. I thought it was somewhat austere from barrel, but that is no longer an issue. This is a beautifully rich Chateau Latour boasting a dense ruby/purple color, a sweet, smoky, charcoal, cassis, graphite, and forest floor-scented nose, full body, an attractive freshness, and sweet, noble tannins. This layered Latour is one of the vintage's top dozen or so wines. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2030. Latour's brilliant manager, Frederic Engerer, has purchased 15 hectares of old vine Grenache and Syrah in the Cotes du Rhone region, the Drome, at a cool-climate elevation. I can't wait to see the first vintage from this Cotes du Rhone project."</i> <b>-- Robert Parker 95/100</b>

Here we have 43% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Cabernet Franc, and 43% of the harvest so there should be 8900 cases produced. It is weightier than Le Clarence, a little plummy and fleshy, but still elegant. There is a lot of evident structure, with a supple composition laid over a core of firm tannins. A little length here. A good wine with potential, although it is not overtly expressed. From my 2007 Bordeaux primeur assessment. 16-17+/20 (April 2008)"</i> <b>-- The Wine Doctor</b>

The complex aromatics are followed by a round, medium to full-bodied wine with silky tannins, an overall subtle smoky component, and a rich, round, generous, plump finish. Already evolved and delicious, it should continue to drink well for two decades."</i> <b>-- Robert Parker 94/100</b>

A dark ruby/purple color is accompanied by notes of spring flowers, black currants, and blackberries, a soft, lush, medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, and delicacy allied to impressive depth, texture, and length. Already drinkable, it should continue to offer exceptional pleasure for 15 or more years."</i> <b>-- Robert Parker 93-95/100</b>

Made from Syrah and sometimes a little Viognier added for colour and aroma, the wine is expressive, full bodied, dense and enormously concentrated. For anyone with an appreciation of Syrah will love this the rustic but yet elegant Saint Joseph. As is always the case Alain Graillot sets the standard in this part of the Rhone his wines are structured and age worthy yet very approachable when young, it will develop for the next 5-6 years.

<br /><img border="0" src="http://www.accentonwine.co.nz/shop/01794-1_MD.jpg" style="float:left;margin:0 2em 0 0" align="left" />Just landed the new release 2008 as always the wine is made from 100% Syrah from very low yielding vines averaging 30 years old. The viticulture is quite rustic and artisan therefore allowing the wine to express its true terroir characteristics. On appearance it has a very deep almost black with hints of ruby colour with an array of dry herbs, black olive and roasted red pepper. On the palate it is balance and juicy almost chunky with mineral notes and tapenade. It will evolve over the next 4-5 years.

Made from Gamay Noir, lightly pink and dry with aromas of fresh and wild strawberries, very fresh, light and perfumed, just the kind of wine for a sunny Sunday lunch or picnic. We also love this rose because it is light and crisp but still has structure and minerality, in essence what a good rose should be.

Laffay is one of those producers that stays the course, his approach is very much hands off when it comes to winemaking he prefers the vineyard to do the talking and this is very much reflected in the wine. It will evolve over the next 4 years or so as it is a little young at present but I will be worth waiting for.

For people that enjoy unoaked Chardonnay, this is a must, superb offering of riverbed pebbles, chalk, dry stone, superb minerality yet displaying incredible freshness, focus and flintiness. One of the great characteristics of Chablis is that it is able to offer full bodied wines with length, concentration and depth without having to result to any oak or oak aging. Enjoy now or over the next 2-3 years. Ideal with white meats, fish and shell fish.

With the aid of his son Olivier, he makes traditionally styled Chablis, with great intensity of flavour, and true expression of the terroir. Lovely mineral and racy acidity with ample and generous middle palate, it also displays pure fruit flavours and freshness yet remaining flinty and clean, superb focus and purity, a little young at the moment but it will evolve beautifully over the next 5-8 years.

Flinty, crisp, outstanding minerality, dry herbs and grinded stones. 2008 produced some lovely Chablis with lovely fruit intensity. The wines are generally not overly alcoholic, with a good natural balance of superb acidity, and tremendous focus and purity. Drinking very well now but something that should be enjoyed over the next 3-4 years.

This old-vine Garnacha wine is cool-fermented to yield a robust, dark red berry fruited red at 13.0% alc with wild herb complexities, ruggedness and decent tannin backbone to enable hearty drinking with Mediterranean fare. Keep for 4-5 years.
