  • Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2013 08/08/08 NZD $79.95
Youthful, purple hue in the glass with a complex nose of cracked pepper, dark summer berries, black cherry and chocolate, combined with visceral, earthy characters, dried wild herbs and excellent but unobtrusive supporting oak.Palate: Initial savoury / black fruit entry carries through a mouth filling, richly structured palate, the texture of soft leather. An underlying mineral acidity supports this richness, adding a certain juiciness and considerable length. Overall a wine of complexity and finesse.... more »
  • Simon Bize Savigny-les-Beaune "Les Bourgeots" 2003 08/08/08 NZD $59.95 NZD $54.95
This is another of our exclusive imports from the family estate of Bize dating back to the early 19th century, the existing Domaine managed by Patrick Bize is the absolute leader in Savigny les Beaune. If you were to look at what real viticulture is, Simon Bize would be one of the best exponents. When it comes to the expression of terroir, this is it, the vines are generally old and yields low. Bize never exceeds 40 hl/ha. The 2003 vintage is a very hot one which kept yields extremely low. The wine at the moment is showing immense concentration, depth and massive structures yet clean, elegant and pure. There is no doubt that this is what great Pinot Noir should be. Drinking now.... more »
  • Ata Rangi Pinot Noir 2015 08/08/08 NZD $86.95 NZD $77.95
"Very seductive pinot noir combining a sensual, silken texture with layers of complex fruit and savoury flavours. The wine has structure but it is deeply buried within a core of sweet fruit. Dark-fleshed plum, violet, cherry, spice and very subtle fresh herbs are among the more obvious flavours in this supremely complex wine. Outstanding! 8/8/2017" – Bob Campbell... more »
  • Simon Bize Bourgogne "Les Perrieres" Rouge 2014 08/08/08 NZD $49.95 NZD $44.95
Most of you will know this producer by now as one of the top ten producers in Burgundy and indeed the world. All the fruit for this wine comes from his vineyards. The wine has a purple brick red colour, wonderful perfume of truffle, cepes and dried mushrooms. The palate is rich, concentrated and very gamy with hints of dark berry fruit, yet elegant and full. Being 100% Pinot Noir, the wine also displays forest undergrowth, but still remaining silky and velvety. • Pleasant Valley Pinot Noir 2013 08/08/08 NZD $22.95 NZD $21.95
It's good to see that finally Pinot Noir winemakers in this country are waking up to the fact that not everybody wishes to spend $40-$50 to get a decent Pinot Noir. We were quite taken back by the quality of this wine, frankly we thought it would be between $40-$50 until we knew the price. It is a soft savoury and plumy Pinot Noir, in other words what Pinot Noir should be like. The 2013 vintage even though it was a good one, is ready for drinking now. Lovely cherry and soft plumy flavours, slightly savoury, well balanced oak and wonderful forrest floor characters. Having tried this alongside other Pinot Noirs at $30 let me tell you, it delivers! All of this at the price of $22.95.... more »
  • Awapuni Point Pinot Noir 2014 08/08/08 NZD $21.95 NZD $19.95
The brand new release of this very popular Pinot Noir again made by Alan McCorkindale but this time he has chosen Central Otago to produce another benchmark Pinot Noir. It has everything that you would expect from Central Otago, soft, fruity, hints of cherries, thyme and spice yet with a good soft and rounded middle palate that makes it ideal for drinking now or also for keeping for another couple of years or so. At the price of $19.95 you’ll be struggling to find anything at this quality. Excellent for the summer months or also very good with serious food.... more »
  • Neudorf Pinot Noir "Toms Block" 2014 08/08/08 NZD $42.95
Enticing pinot colour, clarity and hue. Deep complex earthy nose with a lick of leather around wild berry, forest floor notes. Search for touches of liquorice, coffee, cream, cherries and plums. With a broad palate the wine sweeps around the mouth leaving a long lingering after taste. This is a serious, sumptuous wine with a slinky component and linen textured phenolics. Oak handling is subtle and tannins are fine and rich and spread through the wine. Tom's Block can be enjoyed at all levels it is a generous Pinot to share over grilled lamb rack and garlicky potatoes or as a more intense experience with Confit of duck or a braise of rabbit.... more »
  • Domaine Dujac Echezeaux Grand Cru 2014 08/08/08 NZD $314.95 Out of Stock
The 2014 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a clean, precise bouquet, quite broody and introspective, a subtle marine influence infusing the black and red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, chalky tannin, tightly wound with a strict, saline finish that leaves the mouth tingling long after it has departed. This is a classy, quite sophisticated Echézeaux in the making, one that should be at the upper end of my banded score with requisite bottle age. 2020-2040. 92-94. – Neil Martin... more »
