  • Pleasant Valley Pinot Noir 2013 NZD $22.95 NZD $21.95
It's good to see that finally Pinot Noir winemakers in this country are waking up to the fact that not everybody wishes to spend $40-$50 to get a decent Pinot Noir. We were quite taken back by the quality of this wine, frankly we thought it would be between $40-$50 until we knew the price. It is a soft savoury and plumy Pinot Noir, in other words what Pinot Noir should be like. The 2013 vintage even though it was a good one, is ready for drinking now. Lovely cherry and soft plumy flavours, slightly savoury, well balanced oak and wonderful forrest floor characters. Having tried this alongside other Pinot Noirs at $30 let me tell you, it delivers! All of this at the price of $22.95.... more »

  • Pyramid Valley Angel Flower Pinot Noir 2015 NZD $149.95 NZD $139.95
Pyramid Valley situated in North Canterbury, in our view, establishes the top gear for New Zealand Pinot Noir. The owners have taken their inspiration from the great wines of Burgundy. Planted in slopes of clay limestone soils with a density of 12,000 vines per hectare which is incredibly high and managed pretty much biodynamical. No artificial pesticides, herbicides and the wine is made reflecting the vineyard and its terroir which means natural fermentation, no filtration, no artificial yeasts and no finings. As a result you have a medium to full bodied, soft and beautifully textured Pinot Noir that exhibits dry herbs, lavender, violets yet profound, pure and focused. In our view, one of the very best in the country.... more »
  • Pyramid Valley Earth Smoke Pinot Noir 2015 NZD $144.95 NZD $139.95

Earth Smoke is richer, more intense and fuller bodied displaying wonderful acidity and middle palate. Will also cellar very nicely for the next 5 years plus.... more »
  • Q Waitaki Valley Pinot Noir 2011 NZD $56.95 NZD $49.95

At its best: end of 2012 to 2017." – Sam Kim, Wine Orbit 90-93 points / 4.5 Stars June 2012... more »
