Undoubtedly one of the most outstanding Pinot Gris in this country. This wine is made by Jacques & Francois Lurton well known for making outstanding wines in Bordeaux and the Coteaux du Languedoc. This Pinot Gris has a floral slightly perfumed bouquet with good concentration of apple, fig characteristics it is also quite oily and rich with hints of dry herb on the palate. A typical cool climate Pinot Gris which is always very clean with great purity and freshness. Drinking extremely well now but due to its concentration, depth and perfect structure, it is also a wine that will be rewarding for the next 3-4 years.

It is refreshing to find a vineyard that really understands what Pinot Gris should be like, this is dry, crisp and flinty not sugary, over alcoholic and flabby, wild fermentation and extended time on its lees have added to the complexity and structure of the wine. This Pinot Gris is an elegantly textured wine displaying orange blossom, pear and lime aromatics complemented by sweet pears and white pepper on the palate with a lasting and appealing mineral finish. A completely new Single Vineyard offering from Alan McCorkindale who has been producing wine under his own label Alan McCorkindale and also the Awapuni Point. Named after the mountain range behind his property in Waipara, this is an exit from his usual style of Pinot Gris which has been more on the fruity side, to a cleaner more refined Pinot Gris which has good length, structure and an immense oily middle palate that is reminiscent of a good Alsace Pinot Gris. What we really like about this Pinot Gris is that it's dry, concentrated and has outstanding purity. Drinking well with fish or white meats or even as an aperitif. Drink now or cellar for another 2-3 years.

The third vintage of this outstanding Pinot Gris that offers great value for money. The wine is made in a dry, crisp almost Pinot Grigio style, on appearance, it is light green straw colour, the bouquet is unmistakeably Pinot Gris. On the palate it displays rich intense apple and fig characteristics with aromas of pear, at the same time with an incredibly oily middle palate which delivers a clean, crisp and persistent finish. One of the great classic blends in Italy, made from a majority of Pinot Grigio and a little Chardonnay from a superb vintage such as 2005. This particular area has been very well known for many years for producing outstanding Soave, Pinot Grigio etc. It's dry and crisp with a bouquet of pine nuts, dry herbs and ripe pear but yet still remaining fresh, clean, fruity and aromatic. Medium to full bodied, it's a wine that will develop well for the next couple of years but is outstanding at the moment with fish, white meats etc.
