Coteaux du Lyonnais Cuvee Benoit-Maillard Rouge 2005

This is the latest vintage of this superb red. Since we started to import this gem, we have virtually gone through thousands of cases, it is one of those magical wines which are extremely well priced, superb value for money and once you've tried it, you will just come back for more. From the area of Coteaux du Lyonnais just South of Burgundy which is made from 100% Gamay-Noir. The 2005 vintage is completely outstanding together with the 2003, the best that we have had up to date. It is more of a classical style with a higher degree of acidity, fuller bodied, more depth and better structure. Frankly as we said in previous vintages, it is the equivalent and sometimes better than many New Zealand Pinot Noirs at around $25-$30. Drinking very well now but it will improve over the next 2-3 years.
