A. Chauvet Brut Non Vintage
NZD $49.95 NZD $44.95
Most of you will know that in terms of value for money, this is as good as it gets! A Champagne of this quality doesn't always come at this price. Basically it delivers the quality of many other Champagnes at double the price, made from a Pinot Noir and Chardonnay blend from the Tour-sur-Marne (very close to Laurent Perrier) that has been aged on its lees, giving it a nutty, yeasty, and light citrus flavour. The delicate finish is crisp and dry with a lingering acidity. A wonderful wine that is best served well chilled. You could even add a dash of Cassis or Frambois to make a refreshing apéritif.

A. Chauvet N.V. Blanc de Blancs
NZD $59.95 NZD $49.95
Blanc de Blancs means that a Champagne or sparkling wine is made from 100% Chardonnay. This Champagne is also made from 100% Chardonnay sourced from some of the oldest and finest Grand Cru vineyards in the Champagne region. This particular style of Champagne results in a very powerful, full and dry wine. Flavours are more pronounced and robust with the classical "yeasty" tang that comes from the Chardonnay giving this bubbly a wonderful complexity. The bubbles are tiny and highly refined and the flavours will linger and last on your mouth well after each sip, all of which alludes to the quality of this wine. You will find much "branded" Champagne on the market that is of a similar quality to this wine retailing around $100 a bottle.

Marc Chauvet N.V. Brut
NZD $74.95 NZD $59.95
Based in the village of Rilly-la-Montagne, this is a growers Champagne in the sense that they make their wines from their very own vineyards. A blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier with approximately 30% blend of older reserve wines, this again is not your usual commercial stuff where 20%-30% of their value goes on marketing and advertising. There is very little of that here, just classical Champagne that equals any major brand for considerably less. Beautiful balance with a lovely bouquet of white flowers and peach, good texture with a clean refreshing finish and just slightly yeasty. Delicious!

Bruno Paillard N.V. Brut
NZD $89.95
As a historical measure in Champagne, Bruno Paillard is definitely the new kid on the block. In just 2 decades they have achieved as much as other producers in centuries, this is one of those Champagnes that says "Only the best will do". If someone wanted to point at the future of this region, Bruno Pailliard would be a good benchmark. This is an elegant non vintage but Premier Cuvée that is consistent in style with great offerings of earthiness, toasted brioche with an exceptionally rich texture but yet finishing very light with an almost lemon and butter flavours that linger on the palate. As we said when only the best will do.

Taittinger Brut N.V.
NZD $92.95 NZD $64.95
One of the great Champagne houses situated in Reims dating back to 1734 and producing world class Champagnes. The majority of the blend has been Chardonnay which is probably the reason why it's quite different to other Champagne houses. It offers tremendous mouth feel coupled with yeasty characters and refined bubbles. The bouquet is slightly reminiscent of brioche followed by roasted almonds which carries on to a structured and balanced palate, yet remaining fresh and up lifting.
