Chateau Cantenac 2009
From the stable of Chateau des Sources, this 1.7-hectare vineyard is planted with 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. It has quite a dense nose that is more introverted than the Petit Cantenac because of the higher percentage of new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very good weight but tightly coiled. I like the purity here and the chalky texture towards the finish and part of me wishes that a) there was less new oak and b) there was say, 20% Cabernet Franc. Just the right amount of dryness to counterbalance the richness here. This should be very interesting after bottling. Very fine. Tasted April 2010.
