Chateau Peyrabon 2004
NZD $34.95 NZD $32.95
We have been importing this particular Chateau for a number of years and the 2004 is just starting to show beautifully. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and small amounts of Petit Verdot give this wine its bright purple inky colour with a bouquet of blueberries, mocha and smoke. On the palate it carries good weight, silky tannins and an infusion of berry compote. Excellent length, focus and a good degree of purity. Starting to drink very well now but will also cellar for another 5/6 years and at the price it offers excellent value.

Chateau Pierbone 2005
NZD $34.95 NZD $32.95
Like many other wineries in Bordeaux, Chateau Pierbone had an exceptional 2005 vintage. Made from mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot the wine expresses the terroir of the Haut-Medoc being full bodied yet steely with very tight fine grain tannins. This is magnificent Bordeaux from one of the best vintages ever, at the price it is exceptional value, drinking now or over the next 4-5 years.

Chateau Cissac 2003
NZD $49.95 NZD $46.95
Out of stock
Cru Bourgeois is the classification below the great "growth" classification in Bordeaux which was established in 1855. The best of these wines can be as good as, and at times even better, than a third or fourth growth wine. Chateau Cissac 03 is the typical Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. This has a very appealing dark tar colour and exhibits dark berry fruit and a tobacco bouquet. The palate is very full yet very clean with a great depth and concentration with the flavours of the land (or 'terroir') of the Haut Medoc, dominant in the tannin structure. Also available in cases of 6, which over-rides the minimum requirement of 12 bottles per order. Comes in a classy branded wooden box if ordered in cases of 12.

Chateau Citran 2005
NZD $56.95 NZD $52.95
Out of stock
There is very little that we can add to the already glowing praise and exuberance of the 2005 vintage in Bordeaux. Chateau Citran is one of those properties that has taken an incredible leap in quality and has produced an absolute classic. A Cru Bourgeois from the Haut-Medoc made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, typical 2005 with ripe and gripping tannins, very good intensity and length almost minerally and beautifully perfumed, lovely structure, firm acidity to carry it, starting to drink well now, however much better in 2-3 years time.
Black-red, very pronounced nose (typical of Citran), quite smoky and open, crunchy fruit, upfront and supple. Drink 2008-16.

NZD $54.95 NZD $49.95
We have been importing this particular Chateau for many years now, it has always been excellent and due to the nature of the 2005 vintage, this is the best ever. Made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot the 2005 exudes power, concentration and ripeness. It is clearly a perfect example of what Bordeaux can be on a great vintage. At present it hasn’t shed its youthful coat yet however you can immediately tell that it was built to last. Cellar for 5-6 years plus.

La Demoiselle de Sociando-Mallet 2005
NZD $89.95
This is the second wine from the Haut-Medoc producer Chateau Sociando-Mallet from one of the greatest vintages in Bordeaux. It is at the moment showing outstanding deep colour with hints of dark berry fruit, earth and spring flowers. A much deeper colour than the ensuing 2006 Demoiselle, with more fruit expression on the nose, with smoky barrel notes and hints of liquorice. Rich palate, great purity of fruit, light tannin structure in keeping with its status but providing a good backbone. Well balanced wine, with considerable appeal.

Chateau Cambon la Pelouse 2005
NZD $59.95 NZD $54.95
Another exceptional up and coming performer in the southern Médoc (just outside the Margaux appellation), this sensual blend of 50% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot Possesses a dark ruby/purple colour, sweet fruit and tremendous purity, definition and nuances (a hallmark of the top 2005s). With medium to full body, velvety but noticable tannin and abundant glycerin (no doubt because of the 13+% natural alcohol). It should drink well for 7-8 years.

Chateau Lanessan 2009
NZD $37.95
"Generally a St.-Julien/Pauillac-like offering, the 2009 Lanessan seems more explosive and concentrated than prior vintages. I'm not sure it is the finest I have ever tasted, but it boasts a dense purple colour as well as copious creme de cassis, cedar wood, underbrush, and spice notes. Beautiful opulence, silky tannins, and a long finish suggest this sleeper of the vintage will drink well for 2-3 decades."

Chateau Saint-Paul 2009
NZD $29.95
A sleeper of the vintage for me, the 2009 Saint-Paul is the first example of this wine I have tasted. Made by Stephane Derenoncourt, it is a blend of 48% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. An opulent, fleshy effort, it exhibits lots of red and black fruit and liquorice characteristics, but no evidence of wood even though 15% new oak is utilized. The alcohol of 13.5% is modest by 2009's standards. This inexpensive beauty should provide plenty of pleasure for 3-5 years. (Tasted once.)

Chateau Senejac 2009
NZD $37.95
Run by the Cordier family, with the vineyard managed by Alfred Tesseron’s team at Pontet-Canet, this is the first vintage from their biodynamically farmed estate, and it is certainly the best wine I have ever tasted from Senejac. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, oodles of black currant fruit are intermixed with some licorice, underbrush, and foresty notes. Great fruit, a sumptuous, fleshy texture, and plenty of succulence and length make for a big, rich, nicely textured wine to drink over the next decade. (Tasted two times.)

Chateau Charmail 2009
NZD $46.95
This classic over-performer has turned out another super-attractive, supple-textured, dark ruby/purple-coloured wine displaying notes of flowers, liquorice, spice, and background oak. It should drink nicely for a decade or more. (Tasted two times.)
