    This is the finest effort I have yet tasted from the former director of Mouton Rothschild proprietor Patrick Leon. A Blend of 84% Merlot and 16% Cabernet Franc, the 2005 Les Trois Croix oozes sweet black cheery and currant fruit from its projected bouquet. Displaying excellent purity, medium body and a Pinot Noir-like elegant character, it should drink well for a decade. Robert Parker 88-89

    While the 2005 does not equal the prodigious 2003 (the finest La Vieille Cure to date), this Merlot-dominated effort was fashioned under the guidance of Michel Rolland. It is a dense, powerful, dark ruby/purple-tinged offering exhibiting a big structure, loads of substance as well as extract and high tannin. Give this sleep of the vintage 2-3 years of bottle age and consume it over the following two decades.

  • Chateau Villars 2009
    Chateau Villars 2009 NZD $34.95
    A solid effort, and possibly the best wine ever made at Villars, the 2009 exhibits a deep ruby/purple colour as well as notes of forest floor, crushed rocks, blueberries, and raspberries, a superb texture, admirable purity, and a long, full-bodied finish. It should drink well for 15-20 years.
