Deep red and almost black in colour, this Merlot has aromas of ripe fruit, plum, cherry and blackberry with hints of charry oak and dark chocolate. Eden Valley

  • Henschke Cyril Cabernet Sauvignon 2000 NZD $154.95 NZD $149.95
The Cyril Henschke was produced as a tribute, from 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, grown at Eden Valley and matured for 2 years in new French oak barrels. It is recommended that Cyril Henschke be decanted before serving.
  • Henschke Hill of Grace 1996 NZD $519.95
One of the true world class Australian wines made by the Henschke family from original plantings going back 140 years. Hill of Grace is a true single vineyard wine inspired by European classics. A terroir driven wine that expresses Shiraz to perfect ion.  Viticulture, vineyard and site are the key elements in this particular wine. The 1996 was a superb vintage which is quite approachable now but will also develop for a number of years. Aged primarily in American and French oak for 18 months, it is undoubtedly profound, dense, concentrated and ripe with an excellent perfume of blackberry compote, full bodied, well defined and clean. A little young now but it will develop up to 2015-2020.

Griffith

  • Westend 3 Bridges Shiraz 2006 NZD $28.95 NZD $24.95 Out of stock
This wine has also received more medals than an army general, including a gold at the Perth Wine Show. A glorious vintage which has produced a big, fat and almost chewy Shiraz with intense black pepper and spice, yet with soft, rounded tannins and a long robust, chocolate finish. Keep this one for 5 years, also. Again, we think this is a steal for the price and strongly advise stocking up large.
  • Westend Richland Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 NZD $17.95 NZD $15.95
Westend Wines is a family owned company established in 1945 by Francesco and Elizabeth Calabria. The fruit for this wine was hand picked and then aged in French and American oak for 6 months. It displays a deep ruby colour with a bouquet of liquorice, mint and berry fruit. Ripe blackberry flavours attack all parts of the palate with a well structured, firm and robust finish. Cellar for 3-5 years.
  • Westend Richland Merlot 2007 NZD $17.95 NZD $15.95
Most of you will be familiar with wines from this outstanding producer situated in Griffith, N.S.W. This is an instant stunner with its plum, dark berry fruit appeal but yet emphasizing its cooler growing conditions therefore does not exhibit overly ripe or aggressive tannins. On the palate it has wonderful intensity with very careful handling of oak which allows its typical terroir and natural characters of the wine to come through. This is an excellent partner for a Sunday roast or BBQ lamb. Drink now or cellar for the next 2-3 years.
  • Westend Outback Shiraz 2005 NZD $14.95 NZD $10.95 Out of stock
This outstanding Shiraz has won Gold at the 2005 Perth Royal Wine Show and by popular demand we thought we would bring it to you again this week. Most of you will know this wine, but for those of you that don't, it is from Griffith N.S.W. from the Westend producer that we have been importing for years. The wine has a dark cherry colour with a bouquet of pepper, black olive and candid fruit. On the palate it displays a Rhone style structure of crushed black peppercorns, dark chocolate with hints of oak. Excellent with roasts or BBQ dishes. Drink now or cellar for the next 2-3 years.

Hunter Valley

Mclaren Vale

Riverina

  • Westend 3 Bridges Durif 2006 NZD $28.95 NZD $26.95
Durif is a fairly new and exciting grape variety being grown in Australia and does not come with the massive profile of its popular counterpart Shiraz. It is believed this particular grape variety may have originated in the Cote du Rhone region in the South of France, but unproven theories suggest it managed to find its way naturally to California where it has achieved great critical and commercial success. Today the variety is grown in Western Australia, Hunter Valley and Barossa. It has a similar colour to Shiraz but is even more concentrated and richer. The wine has a thick, pure charcoal black colour with hugely intense peppery savoury and sweet/sour characteristics. Very frontal, it grabs you and doesn't let go. If you love the heaviest of Shirazes you will adore this spectacular new grape variety. You can drink this with hearty dishes and BBQ steaks even though part of the wine has undergone carbonic maceration creating soft and velvety tannins. Approachable now or will keep 4-5 ... more »
