Don Baltazar Chardonnay Viognier 2005
NZD $11.95 NZD $10.95
153286
Combining the two varieties in a unique and anthological mix: fresh and fine aromas of exotic fruits of the Chardonnay and those of the Viognier. A lovely dry aromatic and minerally wine which for lovers of Chablis it will go down very well, though it still has very good upfront fruit with depth and minerality and finishing flinty and crisp. It is an excellent complement of white meats, fresh sea products, rices and young cheeses.

De Canal Pinot Grigio 2007
NZD $12.95 NZD $10.95
153272
Pinot Grigio has been a remarkable success for the northern areas of Italy, it is not a style in the French Alsace version but rather very unique Italian. They can vary from regional style to single vineyard and riservas. This is not a riserva however it is incredible to find a wine of this sort of quality especially at the price. We were a little concerned about the actual price and we tried it 3 times just to make sure. Crisp, flinty and incredibly fresh, slightly oily with a touch of fig and pear. Beautiful acidity, lovely middle palate, you could imagine yourself drinking some of this during summer with some fish or an anti-pasto. It has to be said at $10.95 it might sound unreal but this is the real deal, it’s quite superb!

Pleasant Valley Old Vine Sauvignon Blanc 2008
NZD $13.95 NZD $12.95
153144
Another exceptional offering for this very much underrated producer, it came to us by accident trying some top New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and this just happened to come out on top. Fruity, flinty and aromatic, a barrage of gooseberry and lychee but dry with a lengthy middle palate, succulence and balance, what really good old fashioned Sauvignon Blanc used to be and the main thing really, all for $12.95. An absolute bargain!

Old Vine Chardonnay 2007

This is one of those super deals that do not come round that often but when they do, you should take it! Selected from old vines, this Chardonnay delivers an array of butterscotch, freshly baked bread but yet maintaining a lovely freshness and fruit flavours. Frankly you would expect to pay close to the $20 mark for a Chardonnay of this quality. It is ideal with white meats or fish, drinking very well now but will also keep for a year or two. Excellent value at $12.95.

This is the baby of the family right from the heart of Tuscany made from Sangiovese with a small proportion of Merlot. The wine has a slightly crimson red colour with a touch of purple. On the palate the Sangiovese offers generous spiced and smokey flavours which are very well balanced by the fruity and plumy characteristics of the Merlot. This makes it a great companion to light pasta dishes, meals and your favourite BBQ. Excellent value for your money at $12.95. Drink now or keep for 2 years.

This outstanding Shiraz has won Gold at the 2005 Perth Royal Wine Show and by popular demand we thought we would bring it to you again this week. Most of you will know this wine, but for those of you that don't, it is from Griffith N.S.W. from the Westend producer that we have been importing for years. The wine has a dark cherry colour with a bouquet of pepper, black olive and candid fruit. On the palate it displays a Rhone style structure of crushed black peppercorns, dark chocolate with hints of oak. Excellent with roasts or BBQ dishes. Drink now or cellar for the next 2-3 years.

Pleasant Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2008
NZD $15.95 NZD $14.95
152238
Very few cases remaining of this lovely and excellent value Sav/Blanc, we have tried many 2008s, when it came to the crunch and the all important value for money it delivers hands down.
Not just your usual grassy, semi-sweet run of the mill Sav/Blanc but a wine that truly captures the essence of Marlborough, lovely acidity, pungent with beautiful middle palate and concentration, very clean and generous also full body, classic Marlborough really. At $14.95 per bottle it is hard to pass considering the quality of many commercial ones on the same price bracket.

For those that think that this is only red wine country, think again because they also produce outstanding whites at incredible prices. Made from Chenin Blanc and Torrontes, it is refreshing, crisp and minerally with excellent freshness and vibrancy, for wine of this quality you would expect to pay well over the $20.00 mark, but you won't have to, $15.95 in cases of 12.

Awapuni Point Sauvignon Blanc 2008
NZD $16.95 NZD $14.95
152079
With a little aging, this Sauvignon Blanc is becoming better and better. The 2008 vintage is the best we've had, it offers lush gooseberry fruit, lychee and green asparagus but it also has depth and length with good concentration and nerve. Made exclusively for Accent On Wine, at this price will give a lot of other Sauvignon Blanc at $20+ a run for their money. Drinking very well now but will also cellar for another 2 years. Drink it with mussels, prawns or any shellfish.

Awapuni Point Chardonnay 2007
NZD $16.95 NZD $15.95
152070
We have tried this recently together with other premium Chardonnays and we mean premium, in fact some of them at over $40, we don’t do this often however we’re glad we did because it showed us one of two things.....either the others were completely over priced or this one is a bargain. The fact of the matter is that it offers unprecedented value, not over oaked but with lovely texture and balance, superb fruit with notes of toasted brioche, oatmeal and fresh cream. Just the right palate weight and concentration.....very few cases remaining, so be quick because at $15.95 it is hard to beat.

Westend Wines is a family owned company established in 1945 by Francesco and Elizabeth Calabria. The fruit for this wine was hand picked and then aged in French and American oak for 6 months. It displays a deep ruby colour with a bouquet of liquorice, mint and berry fruit. Ripe blackberry flavours attack all parts of the palate with a well structured, firm and robust finish. Cellar for 3-5 years.
