  • Pleasant Valley Merlot Cabernet Franc 2006 NZD $21.95 NZD $18.95 Out of stock
    153008
Pleasant Valley Red All This came on a St. Emilion tasting which was thrown in purely by chance and we really didn't have a clue where it was from, in fact none of us picked it as being from New Zealand and when we looked at the price definitely not from Waiheke, it was far to cheap to be from there. Cabernet Franc is not the easiest grape to ripen and not the easiest grape to grow either that's why we didn't think that it would be from New Zealand. It really exhibits a wonderful perfume of dry earth and truffle, great acidity, pure and yet still concentrated. Lovely richness and succulent with an array of wild berries but still very well integrated, vibrant, fresh with excellent finish, this is really equal to many $40-$50 wines out there. Enjoy now or over the next 3-4 years.
  • Menhir Tre Lune Malvasia Nera 2004 NZD $21.95 NZD $19.95
    152579
This is one of those varieties that has been around as long as the Roman Empire. It was always over looked, over worked, over cropped, in fact it wasn’t really treated very nicely. However the modern versions that some producers are making are a complete transformation. Almost black inky colour loaded with wild flowers, herbs and dry fruits, it’s expressive, juicy and succulent yet clean, vibrant and fresh, it’s not sweet or jammy and an excellent vintage which is drinking very well now however will also keep for another few years. Ideal for the BBQ, roast etc.
  • Garci Grande Verdejo Viura 2006 NZD $21.95 NZD $19.95
    152933
Bodegas Garci Grande has 200 acres of vineyards on Rueda’s gravelly, dry plateau near the historic town of Valladolid in the southern part of the zone. Garci Grande is made from a blend of 50% Verdejo and 50% Viura. The Verdejo grape has been grown in the Rueda region for over centuries. Its origins date back to the 11th century. Viura was introduced in the 1950’s, when Verdejo wasn’t appreciated on its own. No oak as it doesn’t need it, it offers an array of minerals, green figs and cashew nuts, full body with crisp and racy acidity, freshness and concentration. This is the sort of wine that over delivers for its price, versatile, good on its own and even better with food. If you haven’t tried it, you should because at the price they don’t come any better.

This is made from 45 year old vines in the continental inland climate of Calatayud in north eastern Spain. Completely unoaked with extensive lees aging to give it complexity, aroma and depth. The wine exhibits a mouth filling and caressing structure with beautiful vibrancy yet remaining very clean and accurate, full bodied and expressive yet not sweet or flabby. Ideal with fish, casseroles, white cheeses and definitely white meats such as pork. Drink now or over the next 3-4 years.

  • Pleasant Valley Malbec 2006 NZD $21.95 NZD $18.95 Out of stock
    152265
Pleasant Valley Red All We came across this wine purely by chance in fact it came right in the middle of a Malbec tasting from Argentina. We knew that it wasn't Argentinean but we were very surprised to find out that it was from Waiheke Island and then even more surprised to find out its price. This is Malbec as it should be reminiscent of an Argentinean from San Juan rather than Mendoza, floral with lots of dark chocolate, leather and dry spice, excellent tannins, ripe, subtle and soft, full bodied with well integrated acidity, tannin and alcohol, very good length on the finish and is an absolute steal at its price! We are always quite wary and critical of New Zealand red wines purely because of their price but it is good to see something like this which offers very good quality at an excellent price. There should be more producers out there like this and they wont have any problems selling their wine! Drink now or over the next couple of years.
  • French Bay Pinot Noir 2008 NZD $21.95 NZD $19.95
    153189
We've been eagerly waiting for this and it is finally arriving, we've tried it 3-4 times against other Central Otago Pinot Noirs all at $30-$40 plus and it is just up there. At last we are starting to see some value from this ever promising and in some cases exciting area. It is Pinot Noir as it should be, soft, velvety and textural with forrest floor, maraschino cherry and a good dose of spring flowers. Superb ripe tannins, very good acidity and a delicious burst of freshness and fruit… We think you'll love it! And let’s not forget it’s only $19.95 per bottle in case lots. Shock your friends and tell them it is $40.

Perfect on its own even better with food, especially shellfish, if you haven't tried it yet, you really should because at the price, this is unequal.
  • Vina Gormaz 2006 NZD $21.95
    152752
The 2006 Vina Gormaz Tempranillo, produced from 50+-year-old ungrafted Tempranillo vines, is as good a value as exists from the D.O. of Ribera del Duero. This unoaked wine is dark ruby-colored with aromas of earth, spice, mineral, plum, and black currants. This is followed by a medium-bodied, ripe wine, with layered flavors, light tannin, and good balance. This is another great example of the extraordinary wealth and depth of wines to be found in Spain over the last 20 years or so. A little young at the moment but still offering very fresh and clean matured fruit flavours that will develop for another 3-5 years.
  • Awapuni Point Pinot Noir 2007 NZD $21.95 NZD $19.95
    152080
We have been struggling to maintain supply of this ever popular Pinot Noir. It has become our best selling Pinot Noir and this new vintage 2007 is going to raise the bar even further. A lot of you that have tried the previous vintages I'm sure will agree that at the price, it is really unbeatable. Having tried it at various times, it gives other Pinot Noirs at around $30 a run for their money. It's full bodied, savoury and concentrated with game and forrest floor characteristics. Made by the renowned Alan McCorkindale who is very well known for not ever compromising quality. Drinking well now or will cellar for another 3 years.
