    153642
The clear example of how over the last 20 years Argentina has searched to the forefront of excellent wine at really some incredible prices. Santa Rosa vineyards are situated in Mendoza at the foothills of the Andes, approximately 85 kms east of Mendoza, they are known for producing high quality whites and reds and this is their Viognier which is full bodied and dry with full structure, tropical fruit with mature aromas of peach, apple and pear. Ideal with fish, white meats and cheese. An excellent value for money Viognier which is drinking well now or over the next 2-3 years.
  • Septima Noche Pinot Noir 2008 NZD $53.95 NZD $44.95
    153310
Septima Noche literally translated means Seventh Night. This is a deviation from what you would come to expect from Mendoza in Argentina where Malbec is the king. A robust, concentrated Pinot Noir that is probably more the style of a Burgundy than the Kiwi type, savoury and ripe with ample and rich middle palate, a beautiful expression of its varietal that will also cellar for the next 4-5 years. Something distinctive that you should make a point of trying.
  • Septima Chardonnay Semillon 2010 NZD $18.95 NZD $16.95
    153146
This fantastic new import hails from the Mendoza region of Argentina. A relatively small producer, Septima are known more for their Cabernet and Malbec varieties. This wonderful little blend consists of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Semillon. It displays a pale yellow colour with aromas of citrus, apple and tropical fruit such as pineapple. On the palate it is wonderfully fruity while remaining very fresh and balanced with a silkiness and volume to it that comes from the Semillon. Drink now or cellar for another 2-3 years, this wine is capable of maintaining its qualities. Drink with fish, chicken or even on its own.
  • Uruco Malbec 2008 NZD $29.95 NZD $27.95
    153425
When it comes to great Malbec, Mendoza is second to none. This is another example of a very full bodied wine with great concentration and poise. Big tannins yet soft, rounded, very focused with wonderful minerality. A very naturally produced wine, unchilled with no filtration that will cellar for up to 10 years. Given the price, you would expect to pay easily $50 plus however it is barely half of that. Drink now or cellar for up to 10 years.
  • Avanti Chenin Blanc Torrontes 2007 NZD $16.95 NZD $15.95
    153177
From over 1000 metres above sea level at the foot of the Andes in Mendoza, Argentina. For those that think that this is only red wine country, think again because they also produce outstanding whites at incredible prices. Made from Chenin Blanc and Torrontes, it is refreshing, crisp and minerally with excellent freshness and vibrancy, for wine of this quality you would expect to pay well over the $20.00 mark, but you won't have to, $15.95 in cases of 12.
  • Santa Rosa Torrontes 2011 NZD $16.95 NZD $15.95
    153643
A typical Argentinian variety that has been making waves across the world for being and offering superb quality at incredible prices. Also from Mendoza, completely unoaked, light to medium bodied, aromatic with a spicy dry and refreshing finish. It has wonderful middle palate and aromas of ripe fig and melon but yet tightly structured, mineral, clean and very focused. This is excellent with shellfish and generally speaking, Asian cuisine. Drink now or over the next couple of years.
  • Santa Rosa Tempranillo Malbec 2011 NZD $14.95 NZD $13.95
    153644
Also from the region of Mendoza, another blend that has been working so well in this region. Tempranillo and Malbec complement each other very well. The acidity of the Tempranillo and the ripe luscious fruit of the Malbec combine to make an elegant, soft and balanced wine with lovely structure, focus and concentration. Slightly aromatic with hints of violet and tobacco and ideal with sausages, cheeses and BBQs. Drink now or over the next 2-3 years.
  • Septimo Dia Malbec 2010 NZD $29.95 NZD $27.95
    153416
Another clear example of why Argentina is producing the very best Malbec in the world. From Mendoza, a region situated at a very high altitude above sea level therefore producing very low yields and very natural wines. In the true style of Malbec, it has soft supple tannins with great concentration, minerality and high expression. The 2010 is another very good vintage even though vintages in Mendoza do no vary that much because of its topography. Excellent with grilled steaks, sausages and also pastas. Drink now or cellar for 5-6 years.
  • Finca El Origen Reserva Malbec 2006 NZD $24.95 NZD $22.95 Out of Stock
    153095
Malbec is what made Argentina famous, for those familiar with it will know why, it is always a versatile wine that can be drunk young but it also can age very well. Lovely flavours of cocoa, smoked meats with excellent minerality and subtle tannins, always full body and succulent, expressive with tremendous minerality and an instant mouth appeal of blackberry fruits this is due mostly to its altitude, exceptional terroir and vineyard sites, very few areas in the world make Malbec like Mendoza. Excellent with grilled meats.
  • Pleasant Valley Malbec 2006 NZD $19.95 NZD $17.95
    152265
We came across this wine purely by chance in fact it came right in the middle of a Malbec tasting from Argentina. We knew that it wasn't Argentinean but we were very surprised to find out that it was from Waiheke Island and then even more surprised to find out its price. This is Malbec as it should be reminiscent of an Argentinean from San Juan rather than Mendoza, floral with lots of dark chocolate, leather and dry spice, excellent tannins, ripe, subtle and soft, full bodied with well integrated acidity, tannin and alcohol, very good length on the finish and is an absolute steal at its price! We are always quite wary and critical of New Zealand red wines purely because of their price but it is good to see something like this which offers very good quality at an excellent price. There should be more producers out there like this and they wont have any problems selling their wine! Drink now or over the next couple of years.
  • Ma Maison Chardonnay 2008 NZD $52.95 NZD $46.95 Out of Stock
    153295
This is one of the up and coming stars in Martinborough that has been able to capture the essence of true Chardonnay. For lovers of white Burgundy, in particular Mersault, you will find it very familiar. Made from a small holding of mainly Mendoza clone Chardonnay with an abundant aroma of white peach, melon and nectarine and left on its lees for an extended period of time but not stirred which gives it a bottle fermented Champagne character. Full malolactic is given to the wine with no fining or filtration resulting in a creamy, soft and well balanced texture with lovely acidity, focus and accuracy. Frankly one of the very best Chardonnay’s that we’ve come across in the last few years. Will also cellar for another 3-5 years.
  • La Puerta Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 NZD $19.95 NZD $18.95
    153127
This is just to show that Argentina does not only make Malbec but also just outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon. La Puerta is situated in La Rioja which as a region, quality wise, rivals Mendoza. You could almost say that this is an influence of Spanish Rioja and French Bordeaux, it offers an abundance of fruit, especially dark berry, tobacco leaf with hints of well integrated oak. We have tried this alongside other wines at the $40-$50 mark and it doesn’t only rate, it is as good if not better!
