One of the true majestic houses of Champagne, founded in 1772, we could write books about this Champagne, but anyone who likes it will know Veuve Clicquot for being outstanding, refined, elegant, long bead clean with great depth. Tiny refined bubbles, wonderfully fresh and crisp yet displaying great length, mouth filling a totally outstanding Champagne. What better way to celebrate life?. Like any good wine, Champagne of this quality will also keep.

Chivite Coleccion 125 Reserva 2001
NZD $89.95
152076
The Senorio de Arinzano estate was made to produce the best Tempranillo, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon parcels to be made under Chivite's Coleccion 125 label. These grapes are twice selected and hand harvested then matured for 17 months in new Allier French oak barriques. Chivite has raised the profile of wines from Navarra which were always considered second to Rioja. This 2001 Reserva is the equivalent of a very good second growth from Bordeaux at half the price. The wine is dense, intensely perfumed with grip and substance. It offers a lush and sweet texture but yet is still remaining full bodied, balanced with an all round velvety feel. Drink now or cellar for up to 10 years.

Kumeu River Matés Vineyard Chardonnay 2008
NZD $54.95 NZD $49.95
11355
Maté's vineyard sits just across the road from the winery, an outstanding enclave reminiscent of a "Clos". This is Maté's vineyard. Setting it apart from the normal or estate Kumeu River, Maté's shows a bolder and individualistic character and it also takes a bit longer to mature. Hand harvested and whole bunch pressed then 11 month barrel aging lead this to be an outstanding release. The Maté's vineyard always offers more concentration, better length and richness than the straight Kumeu River Chardonnay. This is reflected very well in this vintage that has generous fruit flavours, good organic and fruit acidity, depth and hints of minerality. This is as close to a Meursault as you are going to get. Cellar for 4-6 years.

El Puntido 2006
NZD $96.95
152383
"Purple coloured, it delivers a fragrant nose of wood smoke, espresso, Asian spices, black cherry and blackberry. Dense, round and smooth textured, this opulent effort is loaded with luscious fruit and has enough structure to evolve for 6-8 years. Drink this lengthy Rioja from 2016 to 2026." 5/5 John Radford, The Wines of Rioja

La Chenade 2004
NZD $39.95 NZD $34.95
Out of Stock
EP045
This fruit-accented wine should provide enjoyable drinking as soon as it is in bottle. It is fresh, fruity and agreeable with notes of cassis (40% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend) and crisp, grainy tannins. One of the best examples of a very well priced Pomerol which due to its vintage and characteristics offers excellent value for money drinking when young but also will develop for another 5-6 years.

Gaja Sperss 2004
NZD $589.95
153041
"Gaja’s 2004 Langhe Sperss is an infant. Still incredibly primary, it exudes the essence of Serralunga black fruits, smoke and tar. The new oak is still very evident here and the wine seems to be at an awkward phase of its development. Still, it offers stunning concentration as well as length, with soft, caressing tannins that frame the fruit all the way to the long finish. This wine is in need of serious bottle age and may very well merit a higher score once it emerges from its temporary period of dormancy." - 96 points, Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate # 174
