Pyramid Valley Rose Vineyard Riesling 2007
NZD $45.95 NZD $39.95
153170
This is a slightly late picked Riesling that has been whole bunched pressed with no settling. Again as with all Pyramid Valley wines it has undergone a natural ferment in stainless steel and old oak. Beautiful light straw golden colour, refined, tight but yet expressive. The varietal flavours will remind you of quince, stewed apple, dust and orange peel. A racy clean and focused Riesling with nerve, pinpoint accuracy and underlying minerality. Young at the moment however can be enjoyed because of its youthful characteristics but will also cellar for 5 or more years.

Pleasant Valley Malbec 2006
NZD $19.95 NZD $14.95
152265
We came across this wine purely by chance in fact it came right in the middle of a Malbec tasting from Argentina. We knew that it wasn't Argentinean but we were very surprised to find out that it was from Waiheke Island and then even more surprised to find out its price. This is Malbec as it should be reminiscent of an Argentinean from San Juan rather than Mendoza, floral with lots of dark chocolate, leather and dry spice, excellent tannins, ripe, subtle and soft, full bodied with well integrated acidity, tannin and alcohol, very good length on the finish and is an absolute steal at its price! We are always quite wary and critical of New Zealand red wines purely because of their price but it is good to see something like this which offers very good quality at an excellent price. There should be more producers out there like this and they wont have any problems selling their wine! Drink now or over the next couple of years.

Pyramid Valley Hille Semillon 2006
NZD $46.95 NZD $42.95
153284
Again same philosophy, same care, same love applied here. Whole bunch pressed, natural yeast fermentation in French oak. We believe that a little Sauvignon Blanc has been added but this would be minute. Yellow straw colour with a bouquet of dry herbs, toast and candid marmalade. This is a broad, concentrated and full bodied wine however again beautifully balanced, focused and lovely purity. A wine that will drink fantastically for the next 3-4 years but very rewarding now in its youth because of its freshness and glorious generosity. For anyone who has not tried first class Semillon, this is it!

Pleasant Valley Marlborough Chardonnay 2010
NZD $21.95 NZD $19.95
152239
A fantastic wine from this vineyard which seems to be going from strength to strength, this Marlborough Chardonnay given its quality should have a real price tag of $24.95+. Having tried it against some leading New Zealand Chardonnays, the wine is just brilliant. Made my Neil Cully, the winemaker for Cable Bay on Waiheke Island, on appearance it has a green golden colour with a butterscotch, ripe nectarine and melon bouquet. On the palate it is clean, sophisticated, slightly oily and focused. Drinking beautifully now at 4 years of age but will also hold a bit longer.

Pleasant Valley Gewurztraminer 2006
NZD $17.95 NZD $16.95
152240
This is the superb Gewérztraminer made from Marlborough fruit and by the same winemaker Neal Cully also wine maker at Cable Bay on Waiheke Island. Frankly one of the best Gewérztraminers around and considering the price it is the best value for money. On the nose it is like a bouquet of flowers, floral, spicy and intensely perfumed. The palate offers richness, spiciness and excellent pure fruit. The acidity level and texture meet right in the middle making it balanced and elegant. Ideal with ethnic foods and aged cheeses. Considering that the normal price for this would be around the $25+ mark, at $16.95 you've got yourself a bargain!

Pleasant Valley Riesling 2008
NZD $17.95 NZD $16.95
152359
Over the last few months we have been introducing the wines from this outstanding winery and we have to say the feedback that we have had has been nothing short of outstanding. This is our latest offering, their Riesling made exclusively from Marlborough fruit. Softly textured with hints of fig, wild rocket and lemon peel, full bodied and dry yet with an infusion of lemon, petrol and citrus flavours. Ideal for summer with fish or shellfish or as an aperitif. Drink now or over the next 2 years.

Pleasant Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2010
NZD $15.95 NZD $14.95
152238
Very few cases remaining of this lovely and excellent value Sav/Blanc, we have tried many 2010s, when it came to the crunch and the all important value for money it delivers hands down.
Not just your usual grassy, semi-sweet run of the mill Sav/Blanc but a wine that truly captures the essence of Marlborough, lovely acidity, pungent with beautiful middle palate and concentration, very clean and generous also full body, classic Marlborough really. At $14.95 per bottle it is hard to pass considering the quality of many commercial ones on the same price bracket.

Pleasant Valley Pinot Noir 2007
NZD $24.95 NZD $22.95
152360
It's good to see that finally Pinot Noir winemakers in this country are waking up to the fact that not everybody wishes to spend $40-$50 to get a decent Pinot Noir. We were quite taken back by the quality of this wine, frankly we thought it would be between $40-$50 until we knew the price. It is a soft savoury and plumy Pinot Noir, in other words what Pinot Noir should be like. The 2007 vintage even though it was a good one, is ready for drinking now. Lovely cherry and soft plumy flavours, slightly savoury, well balanced oak and wonderful forrest floor characters. Having tried this alongside other Pinot Noirs at $30+ let me tell you, it delivers! All of this at the price of $22.95.
